I don't mean to appear stupid, and I understand the general concept, however, what is the actual purpose of sending a letter of validation to a collection agency? Is it to delay any court proceedings? And what if the collection agency is unable to provide you with all the information you request? Are they obligated under law to do so? And once you receive all the information (if you do), what purpose will it serve you, other than the obvious. I just want to completely understand. Thank you. :)

I am working on a settlement with a CA and hope to come to an agreement this week. I stated that I would pay the agreed amount in return for a PIF letter. With a PIF can the CA turn around an issue 1099 for the balance? Should I negotiate for no 1099’s to be filed? I would hate to get surprised with extra tax burden after trying to take care of the mess.

ok who has dealt with payday 1. I called them today, that was my first mistake, of course they won't take any payments. Says if I don't call back by close of business today they will debt my account again tonight, which I told her go ahead there is no money in my account! Good morning, I'm hoping you can help me. I went into my bank account this morning and see two charges that I had no idea about. One for $100.00 and another for $838.43. They both have the same reference numbers and were posted on 11/16. I have no idea what this is for. I have one judgement that I am paying...have been paying for the past three months and never missed or was late. I have been fully cooperating so I don't understand where this came from. There was no warning of the amounts or the dates they would be taken out...it all seems to have come out of thin air.
