I have about $60,000 in credit card debt, confused I spoke with my creditor BOA, they will put me on a program sounds great 5 years paid but the payment is double what i can afford. I am current with all other bills, BOA is only 60 days past due. I have a recent lost of income that put me in this spot. I can't sleep at night, my credit was always perfect now all my creditors are lowering my available credit and raising my interest. My concern with dettlement is the 1099 form to the IRS - I would have to claim $30,000 I settled at half. Also the 15% fee they charge you ???

this man called me today at work and said he was a attorney for genova roth and that i had to come up with 315.00 today or he was coming to my job i told him i don't have any money at the time but i didn't want to get to involved with talking to him at work and told him i could send something 8-03 and he said ok and the rest of it divide by 2 the next pay peroid i know i owe them but i owe 200.00 plus 60.00 he said it was refinance since my bank account was closed do you think he is real lawyer.

I have a fairly small amount of debt (around 6000) that I am currently in a position to start paying off. Many of the collection agencies I am speaking with are offering me settlements lower than what i actually owe. Of course i am tempted to pay the lower amounts, but i am unsure if i should. Will paying less to close the account adversely affect my credit rating? I've also heard of collection agencies selling the remainder to another agency. Any truth to this?

I can't believe what I got in the mail today from the NY AG. I sympathized with your difficulty. However, we cannot assist consumers in setting up more suitable payment plans. Then they go on to enclose consumer budget counseling in my area. I'm devastated - I realize I couldn't go on any further the way I was but I was convinced by reading posts on here that at the very least I had a legal leg to stand on. I called and spoke to someone who suggested maybe I need a new complaint with different wording.
