A friend of mine has been mistakenly identified as having outstanding credit card debt by the Law Offices of Bryan K. Levy. They have gone as far as to call the HR department at work, as well as trying to intimidate into handing over her social security number. Any ideas on handling these people? Thanks!

I got really sick with some rare balance disorder called Labyrinthitis and at the same time my bank was going through changes with the online payment system that would require me manually making adjustments to my automatic payments. I did not find this out until over a month later when I was able to get off my back and function again. Many of my accounts got hit with a default rate. I have no problem muscling my way out of debt, but I would prefer taking a path that gets better utility out of my money.

What are the loopholes to watch out for? The collection agency should state an interest rate? The agency should state that the percentage is for the life of the 'loan'? I have been attempting to get my debt problems under control. I have been paying on 3 cards and they are doing OK. One of my accounts in collection is for 23,000. I guess that I will be needing to get this "debt validation Letter" that I have heard of. My problem has been that any agent that I have dealt with insists on either one lump sum reduced settlement or a reduced settlement spread out over only a few monthly payments. I have tried to tell them that I just don't have the money.
