I had a BK discharged in 01. Life went on, I restored my credit. I had a few set backs, I have filed for disability. Translated, I am not working, I can't pay my debts. I had a vehicle repoed when the payments were on time, because I couldn't make my LOC VISA payment with the same company, I now owe $600.00 in collection fees with that company. I owe under seven grand to the world, but to me that's the same as owing 50 grand.

I've had the experience of being taken advantage of by this company I had no idea at the time but I paid them 2000.00 against a known cc debt and now a different law firm is requesting the same amount. The balance the gave me was 2300.00 more than the last statement I received. Is this legal and what steps should I take now that I've been given a civil summons.

I have been looking at a lot of debt settlement companies. Has anyone had a good experience with one. If so, please let me know. Don't know where to go!

I had an old debt credit card - the last balance before I was contacted by attorneys in NY was 8700.00 when I was bullied into making 2000.00 in payments I then received a second letter for different attorneys in NC for the same debt and it was for a balance of 8000.00 - i was unaware of the debt validation process, etc. i've been served papers by the sheriff on this debt and I am totally unsure of what to do or if I really owe the additional monies...any suggestions. i'm willing to make payments or set up a debt consolidation program.

Hello, I had about 9000 credit card debt that I could not make payment since January 2004 because I could not find a job after gradaute. Before the bank sold out the debt to the collector, they offered me at 5000. I wished I could have paid off but I had to deal with other debt back then. Now a collector company named UniFund claimed it is about 16000 with interest. I tried to negotiate with them, they said no less than 12000 and it has to be paid right away.

I recently took a paycut when I changed jobs and cannot keep up with my basic living expenses AND pay off my current debt. All my major credet cards are maxed out and I have medical bills that I cannot afford to pay. Starting to sink.

Okay folks I don't know anything about politics and legal jargan (I am sure someone here does know this tuff) Anyhow I do believe if the people speak up in the form of a petition to get PDL's banned that the government would listen. The little people need to get a voice heard in Washington and let the government know what scum these people are. It's going to literally take an act of congress to shut this industry down.
