Finally, in Canada, PDLs are being found guilty

19 years 5 months ago
See the link below. A OK has been found guilty of interest charges over the limit in BC. There are other PDLs being sued in Canada, so this will have far-wide reaching effects on the PDL industry in Canada.

Best route?

19 years 5 months ago
Hi everyone, What would the best route be to catch up on bills and get out of debt? We have credit cards, 2 car payments, and a student loan. Right now I'm more concerned with just catching up on payments. We've had one of the cars for just over 2 years. Would it be possible to refinance and use the money to pay off what we can. Or would a personal loan covering the credit cards be a better option? If this isn't enough information just let me know what else you need :)

What Bills?

19 years 5 months ago
After my wife and moved to Phoenix everything seemed to be on an upswing for us. We both found decent paying jobs that we love and our bank account was in the 4 digits for the longest time ever. Then one night I mentioned that we hadn't seen a bill for the insurance for a while. We logged on to our companies website and found we were a month behind in payments. And not just for insurance. 2 credit cards and a student loan as well! Trying to catch up is the hardest part. EDIT: Forgot to mention that we took out a PDL to help pay rent.

Referred to attorney for litigation

19 years 5 months ago
Well, Today is the day. According to a letter I received my account will be charged off as bad debt, and then sent out for litigation, since I was unable to come up with a sufficient payment. Should I be worried about what small level of savings I have left? Can they put a freeze on my checking account? Should I start cashing my check at a service place / use money orders? I realize that my checks might get garnished as well. I would just like some input regarding what I might expect due to my unfortunate situation... Thanks, UA

Hey mods. Someone has struck again in the help reply thread.

Here goes...

Don't mean for it to be a sob story, but also want to be realistic and accurate... I have over $110,000 in unsecured debt...actually my wife and I do. I would venture to say that 95% of it has accumulated over the years due to medical issues (bills, premiums at times/COBRA, prescriptions, etc... that we have both experienced, but mostly myself), house emergencies, car repair and taxes. I have had a bad back problem for years (ever since college) and was diagnosed in 2001 with three herniated discs in my lower back.

Need some advice on how to deal with Storefront PDLS

19 years 5 months ago
I need some advice on how to deal with storefront pdls, please. I simply do not have the money to pay them back tomorrow (I have 2) after being hit with all of the fees from online pdls. I'm going to close my bank acct. and consolidate my internet pdls, but I am really anxious about having to go into a storefront pdl and ask to work something out. I guess since I've never had to do it, I'm expecting the worst. Anyone who's been there, done that and lived to tell about it have any words of wisdom? Thanks, Tiffany
