Owed Bill

Hello, I am constantly getting calls from an agency about a bill I owe. Originally it was around $30.00, not it is up to $349.00 with the sure charges of late fees. I get a call every other day, and on a few occassions I have received more then one call a day. I have been told an attachment will be placed on my home. What rights do I have? I have offered them my original amount of $30.00, even 1/3 of the $349.00 I was declined. What can I do now, as I am not in a good financial situation to pay the account off. Thank You

credit card

My 82 year old mother is being harrassed by a credit card company that she is behind with in payments. She has not used this card in over 5 years, made payments though not always regularly, and the total amount due has gone from $6000 to over $10,000. She receives only a social security check, has no property or car, and has absolutely no way of paying this bill. Multiple attempts to discuss the matter with the credit card company have been futile - they say they will accept a lower payment one month, but the next month will include the difference.

getting started

I want to get started consolidating my debt as soon as I can. After I filled out the sign up form, someone did call me, but they told me it would cost me $39 a month plus whatever I pay for consolidating. I know their are some companies that don't charge at all, or charge a one time small fee. How do I get to work with a company that either doesn't charge or charges a smaller amount? Is there a way to work with another company or do I have to choose that one?

my 81 year old mother is receiving threatening letters from a credit card company that says they will bring her to court if she doesn't bring her credit card up to date. what started as a $6,000 bill years ago has grown over time to over $10,000 despite making attempts at paying this, sometimes not in full but at least trying. we have tried to ask for lower payments, which they would do for one month, but the next month would ask for that plus the difference. My mother lives soley on social security and does not own anything except her furniture; no car, no house, nothing.

Security breach at Buy.com

I was reading an article about a security breach that occurred at an E-Commerce site called Buy.com. This is concerning because I do so much shopping online. It was kind of a wake-up call because I always take for granted that our information will be secured by the site's security system. This security breach suggests something otherwise. This e-commerce site was negligent in securing the information of its consumers. According to Wired News, a security hole on buy.com's website exposed the personal information of customers who returned products to the company.

Class action lawsuit against credit card companies

I just read this great article concerning a class-action lawsuit against the major credit card companies for failing to protect its customers. I think this is a great idea because these companies seem to have a limited liability to paying for/getting sued for security breaches. In many states, companies are not even required to report incidents of identity theft.

AOL security breach

Hi, I do not know if you were already aware of this breach but I was pretty surprised when I heard it because I never heard about this breach. AOL is a very popular brand and it is worthwhile to stay informed about how they protect their millions of customers. According to CNET, hackers have illegally compromised an undisclosed number of its member accounts by targeting key company employees with an email virus. The AOL spokesman said that the perpetrators gained access to the accounts when unsuspecting AOL staff downloaded a virus infected email attachment, also known as a Trojan horse.
