First Time being served, don't have any idea what to do?

today i was served and it was very unusual and i'm wondering what i could do. Let me start it off, I was home having lunch with my family when someone knocked on the door saying they had a delivery for me. My mom answered and saw the guy was wearing a badge with "sheriff" on it. I asked whats up and he just threw some papers at me and asked me to sign a paper. I said, well hold on let me see the paper, and he responded by saying no, its just saying you're served, so sign it now. i'm from the courts.

If you dispute a debt collectors validity of the debt, is the debt collector or the original owner of the debt required by law to provide proof of the debt?

I applied for a payday loan last December and received one from Speedy. I repaid the loan as contracted and had no issues with them at all. My issue is with Insight Capital. Insight Capital did not contact me in any way but deposited 300 dollars into my account.

Somebody has applied for THD/CBSD card on July 2,4, and 7th. It is showing up on my credit report. It was not me. I have had my credit frozen now because of identity theft. How can I be sure that this request is denied?

Hello, I opened this account back in August 2007. I received the Credit Card through mail but accidentally threw it away, so therefore never used it. It shows on my credit report, so now my question is Can I still use that credit Card if I were to ask for a replacement?

Hi. I'm new to the forum and simple in awe! What a great site :) So here is my question. Do debt settlement company's write letters and to creditors just like their client would do to ask for a settlement? Or do they have software of some type that allows them to see what rates are? My reason for asking is that my sister in law called up some company and they were spouting numbers like they knew who was currently giving what as far as percentage off. Were they joshing her? My grand son is disabled and not able to pay this debt. I have been paying on it myself. I have been talked badly too and been harassed almost daily. They never send a bill and I need their mailing address. We don"t answer their call be cause of their rude collection agents.How can I get a monthlly statement?

I have a debt on my credit report dated 8/11. I have not interacted with the debt collector. If I contact them, will this update the credit report to the more recent date? I want to keep the earliest date as possible because of the statute of limitations. thanks
