Academy services has to be the most ruthless obnoxious rude people I have ever dealt with in my life! They have threatened myself and called my place of employment and threatened my boss also! They have lied and used illegal collection methods! I stronly recomend not dealing with them at all and filing a complaint with your atorney generals office if they treat you like they do so many others!

They called me today and left a message with a case number to inquire about my ex from 1991. After reading all these notes, I suppose I should be ready for some harrassment. Has anyone been able to be successful in filing a complaint?

This is the rudest company I have ever worked with! First, they called my mother in Michigan. We live in Indiana! When my Mom called and gave me the info, I immediately called them back. The lady I talked to was very rude...(Lynn Trainer) She told me that we were being sued and that 35% of my husband wages would be garnished, ect. I explained that we had a lot of medical bills and unfortunately were going thru a bankruptcy. When I asked why she called my Mom instead of us, she got nasty...said they did an asset search and it was her job to notify us that we were being sued and would do so by any means. End of call. First thing the next morning, my sister-in-law called. She had recieved a call as well. We do not have an unlisted number and I cannot figure why they would call our family members and not us! So, I called Ms Trainer back to find out who else she called. she would not tell me and would only say that if she "had to call my damn dog" she would! Their website is a farce! Do not trust these people!!

Just received a threatening call from Academy, was told to call Ray King x2546, he was abusive in the voicemail, why would he expect that I'd call him back? This was my first call from them.

This company is doing very illegal dealings to get people to try to pay. The Fair Credit Act says that after they have been told that they cannot talk to you at work, they continue to call. Also, they have a habit of lying about who they are in order to talk to you, which is also illegal, as they are not allowed by the same act, to misrepresent themselves. They have several numbers. 215-281-7500; 800-441-6881; 800-220-0605; as well as a few others. I just keep hanging up. It's been over six months now and still they try. HAHAHAHAHAHA

I got a call for my neighbor who is dead! He has been gone at lease 3 years! I will press charges against these people if they keep calling me! when i went to the BBB i got this message. This company is not a member of the BBB. The Better Business Bureau is unable to process complaints against this company because responding to the complaints would violate privacy and disclosure laws set by the Fair Debt Collection Act. Any correspondence received would be processed as a comment letter and forwarded to the company. The Financial Institutions Division is a state agency that regulates collection agencies in Nevada. These guys are the absolute biggest a$$holes in the world. I have virtually ZERO debt but a fairly common name and they keep harrassing me for someone else's debt. I even turned the Air Force JAG office on them and they are STILL harrassing me. Once you tell them they have the wrong person, it is ILLEGAL for them to continue calling you (per the Federal Debt Collection Practices Act). However they have no problem violating Federal Law. Someone even called from their offices claiming to be an attorney, which is afurther violation of law. These guys just suck!!

Wow. This page scared me to death, reading some of the things people had to say about this particular company. Not such an unpleasant experience on the phone with them, but I decided to check with the original creditor to ease my mind. After holding for nearly five minutes, I was connected with Academy Services, so at least now I know they are collecting for that creditor and not trying to steal my money.

Also, the gentleman I spoke with told me they were offering to settle half of the debt. After I agreed he asked me to hold, came back and told me 65% was the best he could offer. Kinda shady if you ask me.

These people have been calling me for 2 yrs. for someone I never heard of. Must have had my phone # before ... & I'm seriously thinking about changing it. I told them (& others) that this was a wrong #, which is TRUE!, and it worked for everyone else ... but these people just seemed to take a break before calling back. And yes, I've had one abusive call when I tried to set them straight. Mostly, I let them waste time & delete their messages from my answering machine ... since I really have nothing to do with it.

I have just moved into a home for a little less than 3 years and have had numerous phone calls for the previous tenant. The thing is how are they pulling up "his" name with my address?????

Should'nt they figure it out that the names dont match???

I tried to tell their repersentatve Shelly Port at 800-441-6881 x5689 that the person does not live there. She stopped me in the middle of my sentence and started to sound like my 2 year old "blah...blah....blah" then she hung up.

calling this company rude is an understatement.

The local police department just arrived and spke to Mark Diaz the acting supervisor and it seems like he was confused about the situation.

The officer spoke with him and he instucted him that we have a California harrasment law tha they are breaking.

Hopefully they will stop calling and we can get some peace here.

Good luck to you all.

I also had the pleasure of talking with Mr. King. I received a letter saying I owed such and such amount of money from a Citibank account which (get this) was closed/payed off three years ago. I wrote this jerk and asked for 1. when the account was opened, 2 a copy of my signature on the application and also all transactions on the account. After Jerk called my ex wife looking for me I called him and when I referenced my letter the chicken hung the phone up. They are nothing but a scam.

File a complaint with the federal trade commision, it may help.

There is this company called CCS(one of it many aka's) it's a credit card company but you could only shop from their catalog. Anyways I singed up with them, figured out what it was, wanted to cancel, and could get no where with their customer service reps, and money kept getting taken from my bank account. I file with the FTA and within 2 weeks I had the 500.00 they stole from me back and a letter of apology. I don't get how companies like these are allowed to operate.
they called me today but didnt leave a message, after reading all these posts I'm scared they're gonna call back! lol
Don't be intimidated by this company. they are not allowed to harass you. Just make sure that you take accurate records of they time they call and what they say in the call. If they start harassing you, you can report them to the FTC, you can write them a letter that will make them stop calling you, and you can sue them. So you do have options in your favor.

You should not ignore this company. You should get to the root of this situation and eliminate it. because this miscommunication could end up ruining your credit. If you say that the debt doesn't belong to you , then you may be a victim of identity theft.

So the first thing that you should do is ask the company to verify the debt. Find out when and where it is from. Get all of the details. Then check your records to see if you did actually correspond with this company. Check your credit report and all your bills to see if you can account for this company. If this represents a previous paid bill, then show them your records which can attest to this.

In some cases, asset acceptance, acquires debt from your other creditors and then becomes your new bill collector. So you may want to verify to see if that is what is actually going on here. this could be a debt from one of your other bills that this company purchased.

I am glad to see that you are informed about your rights. You were right to get law enforcement involved. but you can also take this situation a few steps further. for instance, you can file a complaint about this company with the FTC and the better business bureau. This will keep the heat on their business practices. And also, you can sue them if they are harassing you. These are just a few steps that are available at your disposal. Yes, hopefully ,you will get some peace and quiet.

You don't have to take this harassment. You should take care of this directly by contacting the company. Just use the address in the first post and write them a letter explaining why they are wrong. Explain to them that they have the wrong contact information and that you wish for them to stop contacting you because they have the wrong person.

After they receive this letter, they must stop contacting you. You do not have to live in fear and annoyance by this nuisance. you should not have your phone mailbox filled with their garbage messages. And you certainly should not have to change your phone number. You can take charge and get them out of your hair.

But before you write the letter, be sure that this debt is not yours. Because once you tell them to stop contacting you, they are not allowed to contact you anymore. It is the law. However, if in some strange way, it turns out to be yours, you will be responsible for the debt even after they stop contacting you. So you have to be 100 %sure that it is not yours before you take this decisive action.

Actually they probably obtained your information from your sister in law. Because on some credit forms, they ask you to fill in contact information for people that they can get in contact with when the borrower is unavailable. So your sister in law may have unsuspectingly offered your address and phone number to fill the form. But if they are getting to the point of harassment, you can make them stop by writing them.

THE FAIR DEBT COLLECTION PRACTICES ACT Violations
1. Section 805b - Collection Caller (Randy Dixon) misrepresented himself as a legal authority when he contacted me on Tuesday, July 19, 2005 at 8:15 am Eastern Standard Time. Furthermore, on Wednesday, July 20, 2005 at 8:15 am EST he contacted my tenant at a business property I own in Florida; therefore, by ACS' representative contract of my tenant ACS have probed into my personnel information from government records. I'm a third party contact that I have no idea how ACS got my phone number and how they think the above phone number is associated with this consumer/person that ACS is looking for. The above phone number is on the National-Do-Not-Call list. The consumer ACS is looking for is not a party to the billing address of the my phone number nor is the consumer a party on the billing address of the Florida phone number ACS contacted

2. Section 804(1)- Mr. Dixon violated this by implying he was calling about a legal matter; therefore, implying he was an authority in the legal sense

3.Section 804(3)- Caller Randy Dixon contacted my tenant at a business property I own in Florida; therefore, by probing into my personnel information from government records is in direct vitiation of my privacy information. I'm the third party person not the consumer/person ACS is looking for.

4.Section 807 (3),(7)- Mr. Dixon violated this by stating he was calling about a legal matter; therefore, implying he was an authority in the legal sense. ACS has once again falsely represented or implicated that the consumer had committed some crime in order to disgrace them.

Finally, ACS' representative has falsely misrepresented himself as a legal authority and has probed into my personnel information from government records by contacting my tenant of a business property.

Got a call from Academy the other day, very rude woman, said she was on her way to serve me papers, and I was being sued unless I come up with the money I owed right now! Then she called back and wanted my boss. Thankfully he is very supportive and told her she couldn't call me here at work. She called back! Today I got another one from another woman saying she would be serving me papers today, and there 's nothing I can do about it now. She was very threatening and told me that I would probably end up paying twice as much as I actually owe because I would have to pay THEIR court costs as well as mine! I'm so glad I found these comments! I was on the edge of panic!

You can fill out the online complaint form of the FTC, BBB and state attorney general office and request for immediate action. Make sure that you have your proof intact which might be needed later.

You can also record all the telephonic conversation and inform them that you are going to take legal action against them.

I agree with all the notes above. This company is a farce and they dont comply with the code of ethics that they say they do.
They are only a collection agency and they act like their the FBI or something.
I am sick of them harrassing me at work, home and cell.
I constantly get called from kim tanner at x4368. I hate that ****. Ive told her before i am dealing with someone else and she keeps harrasing me.

we should all get together and have these people stopped.
My husband told her and her supervisor who is just as rude to stick it.

Or we should call them and leave them rude messages on their voicmails too.

I called their bluff and now I call them and you should too. I call random ext. ##'s every free minute I have in between classes (sometimes 50-75 times a day ). Remember... they record every thing so just remain silent...I have been doing this everyday since June...some may say it's childish or even a waste of time, but hey, it helps me sleep better at night.

The Fair Credit Act, I think, states that a collections agency has no rights to collect in a state that they do not have a brick and mortar office in. That means if you live in Colorado and this company's office is in Nevada, they are conducting business illeagally. A class action lawsuit may be filed against them. You can also write a letter to them certified and simply state "Do not call me again". They have the right to try and contact you by phone 1 more time, which is also illeagal, after that they are on the list for harrassment

They called me today and gave me a court case number and said that I should be receiving a subpoena in the mail. I fell behind in payments and had fraud done of my account so pretty much, there was nothing I could do at the time. When I explained to the phone person at the Academy that in a month or two, I could completely pay off the balance, she told me that I needed to pay them check by phone or wire money TODAY! Should I be worried about going to court, or having my wages garnished? I have never experienced anything this extreme in my life!

Academy Services (ACS) has been harassing me....but now they're going to pay! They allege I owe a debt and kept leaving messages on my voicemail... and at other times they block their phone number (ie: Number Witheld or Unavailable appears on the screen) when they call. Next, they called my mothers house and left a message. My Mother called them back to find out what the call was about. My mother spoke to Hugh Arnold x5604. When asked what the call was about, Mr. Arnold asked "are you Mr.Gumby's wife"? To which my mother replied "I'm Mrs. Gumby" (Please note: She never answered yes or said she was my wife)Mr. Arnold then told my mother I had a debt for X number pf dollars and told her all the details of this alleged debt. 1.)It is illegal to harass my family members and 2.) It's illegal to notify anyone of your information unless they are your spouse, attorney or parent IF YOU ARE A MINOR! ACS has screwed up. I spoke to Mr. Arnold who was very defensive. He said they tape all conversations and would play the tape for me. I accepted his offer. Now, he's been dragging his feet for a week now and not able to present any tape.I spoke to two supervisors and say they will call me back tomorrow. I told the "Complaints" Mgr. named Melanie Cruz at ext 2821 that I was demanding the following to settle my charges against them: 1.) They issue me a letter stating my acct. is PAID IN FULL. 2.) They re-age the account, send me a letter stating so, and making sure none of this appears on my credit report, as I have very good credit. I told her a failure to work out an amicable solution will result in the following: 1.) I will notify Citibank about ACS's illegal practices. They do not like this. 2.) I will file a complaint with the FTC and other gov't agencies. 3.) I will file charges in court to recover actual damages, plus $1,000 in additional damages.
I'll let you know how this turns out BUT: If you've been abused by ACS, you can file a complaint online. The FTC takes these charges seriously IF more people complain versus only one.

my husband and i bought a housa in jan of 01in white city kansas. we got way behind on our credit cards and could no longer pay them. we were told that there would be a judgement placed on the house and if we ever sold it the cc co. would collect from the sale of the house. their lawyer said we didn't earn enough for them to garnish our wages. we've since then moved. we currently live in san antonio texas, we are buying a mobil home. we were unable to sell our house in kansas so my sister found some renters to live in and pay rent on the kansas house which we use for the house payment, house insurance water bill and all the expenses of upkeeping a house. well, my sister and her husband were served some papers today saying that the credit card company is going to start garnishing THEIR wages on OUR debt. can you please let me know if that is legal?? both of the houses are in both mine and my husbands name, and my sister and her husband are just collecting our rent money for us. thank-you, Sandra and Charles spires jr

If the debt is valid and you have not paid it, the creditors have the power to take legal actions. They will issue a notice and if you are not able to pay it within that period also, they might auction your property.

At this time, you need to talk with your creditors and stop them from making further actions. It can be stopped only if you can pay them. You can take a consolidation program to ease up the work and let the consultant handle your creditors in a professional way.

Once the judgment is entered, the consultant won't be able to prevent it. It is only at the present situation the consultant might be able to offer some help to you. Register yourself in the link given below to get in touch with the consultant before it gets too late.

this Academy company is completley off their rocker. I hope at some point the athorities will catch up with them and put them out of business. Harrasment is a kind word to use about them. They don't care if it is not the right person, they keep calling. I say we all keep calling their number 800-441-6881 over and over and over again to run up their 800 number costs. Everyone send emails to all their friends to keep calling 800-441-6881 and harrass them back.

I've dealt with these ACS Tony Soprano wannabes. Tried to work out payment with Citibank when I was out of work, but Citibank told me they weren't interested and sent me to ACS. They were astoundingly dumb, mostly uneducated foul-mouths, and ignored settlement offers and offers to set up payment plans. Wound up paying every other debt I had at the time in full within a few months of my troubles and telling the ACS jokers to stuff it. Guess what, disappeared anyways off my credit report within 18 months and caused minimal long-term damage.

They make the threats and harass you because if your debt is small (like mine was), they don't have the profit margin to justify suing. So, they hire a bunch of greasy junior high dropouts in New Jersey to try to intimidate you.

Whether a debt is legitimate or not, if you get contacted by these grade-A morons, strongly consider telling them to go to heck.
