Anyone here ever heard of palisades collection agency??
Man, this is sooo wild!!! I go to the mailbox today and theres a letter from these people saying that my account has been 'sold' by my "previous" creditor to my 'current'creditor. They have the original creditor as being Chase Bank and the previous creditor as being Chase Manhattan Bank and have themselves as being the current creditor. Its for $962.61.
Okay, this is why this throws me off. Our home morgage was originally with Chase manahattan bank (the only dealings we've ever had with Chase, that I'm aware of), then in February 1998 (almost 8 years ago!!!) we refinanced with Aames home loans. They paid Chase totally off and that was that. Also, I have a second mortgage on my home, if we owed Chase any money, it would have came up then and we would of had to pay it before the second mortgage went through. But everything was fine.
I have never heard from any of these people from palisades collection llc in this letter. And to the best of my knowledge, I have only dealt with Chase during our first mortgage, before it was sold. 8 years ago!!! (february will be 8 years).
If we owed them money why didn't we hear anything over the past 8 years? weird! Aames paid everything off with Chase. My credit report shows that things were left in good standing with chase. If this isn't that, then I don't know what else it could be since I haven't gotten letters from palisades collection llc before TODAY.
I am floored, to the point I am speechless here. I mean, I start trying to get things straightened out, and then someone else pops up..people I have never even heard of. where do these people come from? Its like they come out of the wood work?!!!
okay, so my question is if anyone here has dealt with the collection agency before?? Anyone know Palisades collection phone number (Palisades collection number)?
And--what other accounts does chase manhattan Bank handle?
thank you! Shirley
p.s. Do I bring enough Drama to the forum??? lol
what would you guys do without me? lol

I have read several threads on this Palisades collection agency. I have tried every number, and i understand that they are out of business. Also most of the threads are about ATand T. My credit report shows them collecting for Verizon. Has anyone else had this? I have tried the following numbers... 866-877-0008, 800-425-0006, 201-567-5648, 800-414-8319. The second number 800-425-0006 states that for two years Palisades has associated their company with them and they are not in any way linked or associated with them. The lady gave me the 800-414-8319 number which when dialed connects and then disconnects immediately like the 866-877-0008 number. This is a bit frustrating..... any help is appreciated! Thank you!!

I do not know what that comment refers to but it is not a helpful contribution to this thread. If it is dirrected at the collector or the people here it is useless nonsense. I am bumping this up so the moderator of this thread can determine whether or not it should be deleted. If you have nothing to say that is constuctive I suggest you say nothing!

I checked my credit report today and found several outstanding debts. I'm looking to clean up my credit and so I've been trying to find the sources of different debts. Palisades Collection LLC, was listed on my credit report, listing a debt via AT&T. I called up AT&T because I could have sworn that the account was closed and paid in full. I'll be calling Palisades tonight, armed with this information. Is there anything I should do or shouldn't do when speaking with them over the phone?

If you already paid it off then just send them a cease communications letter telling them not to contact you at all. It's past the 7 year period so that can't do anything to your credit report and it's certainly past any states SOL as it's a 12 year old debt so they don't have any legal grounds to sue you.

I had to vol repo my truck in 2003 when I lost my job. Palisades purchased the debt and reported it to my credit bureau. To my understanding if the debt is fours old or more they could not do this. Also they sent in a letter from a lawfirm stating suit and judgment, can they do this considering the age of the debt.

I have Read this great history regarding dealing with Palisades. I am writing for validation on an account. However, I am wondering if you would comment on my particular case. I have never received a letter from Palisades. However I discovered they were reporting a collection account on my credit bureau reports. I disputed this report through the three credit bureaus; it then came back "validated". However I filed a second dispute through the credit bureaus stating that I believe the account not to be mine because no validation had ever been provided. The accounts were removed from the credit bureaus. Then I get this letter from Palisades asking for me to complete an affidavit that I had my ID stolen. Strange? I don't believe I ever claimed that, and I shouldn't reply to this...what do you think?

John/ you mentioned the filing of a lawsuit, and the potential of having a "judgment" set. What exactly does that involve? If I refuse to file a written answer by said date, and don't go to court....What can they legally do? Can they gain access to my financial institution, and garnish the funds? What exactly is a "default" judgment? This debt is regarding the repossesion of a vehicle through chrysler financial. Palisades has bought the account.

Once the court enters a judgment, what proceeds thereafter? I thought only the original creditor could sue.Has anyone else on this post had this situation come about? I really just don't want to deal with them. So many negative thing's have been said regarding their practice, that I'm not sure if their legitimate.Any advice would be much appreciated.(thank's for your response unclewolf)

Ross I'm sorry, but I can't help with what comes after. Haven't been in that situation myself, nor have I researched it. Been too busy concentrating on research for my own woes at present. I would presume that it's similar to regular collection attempts, only with more teeth. I'm sure somebody with more knowledge will check in soon.

And don't sweat mis-spelling my handle. That particular offense puts you in the very select company of about 70% of the folks on the various boards I frequent. No harm, no foul. 8-)

Ross,
If a judgement is won against u, a number of things can happen. They can garnish ur wages, if app in ur state, put a lien on ur property, freeze ur bank accts and levy any assests u may have. Also, this will stay on ur credit report for a long time to come and hurt ur scores tremendously.
Hope this helps u some,
Ang
P.S. Also a CA can sue u for this debt, doesn't have to be OC.

All of a sudden i am experiencing a try for collection on an old acct thst is 10 yrs old at least and is really not my debt as it is the debt of my x when we got divorced 10 yrs ago, I am not sure I have seen this on my credit report, I have a couple of negitive things, and one judgement from long ago and this is part of divorce as well, it is due to dissapear soon, I do not know who these guys are, wolpoff & Abramson, but I think the are full of it. I have pleanty of good credit, and could care less if they are after me, i have no assets, I am a server , and do not receive a paycheck and do not have a checking acct. I deal in cash only and have since my divorce, I pay my credit cards with cash and my Ins with cash, my rent in cash, and my car is paid for and is 10 yrs old, not worth much, I did send them a letter or e-mail in response to the attempt to collect over 3 grand, I have no idea what this is, and I have a strong suspicion that this acct was charged off a long time ago, it is my understanding that it is illeagle to try to collect on something that has been charged off, should I worry about them??

They already have your SS# since they are going to go after your credit. They use ist as a tracker. I finallyt had my case thrown out in court today after 2 years of asking for debt validation. What I have learned is that you should ask them to validate the debt and require that if they have not done so within 30 days to stop all actions to the Credit Agencies. If they do not they are in violation of the FCRA and you need to file a claim in couurt against them immediately.

My son just got a ca stating he owes them money for an acct. that purchased from Great Seneca, that was purchased from Citibank-TOTAL CONSUMER NON-FEE and that he owes a to of over $1,000.00 but if paid within 20 days he gets a 50% discount. He hasn't lived here in over 5 years. He had financial problems over 2 years ago but everything was taken care of, now this. How do you check to see if this is legal or just a scam? marty28, Just ignore them....i was served also....as far as my credit goes....not really concerned. It's already wasted, so not much more they can do to hurt it.... If your credit is still in good standing, i would definetely find out what it's about and get it taken c/o. I think the court thing is yet just 1 more scare tactic... it's most likely disputable.Good Luck!

I just received a notification from Experian that Palisades has updated the information on my supposed debt with them, which means that they are stating that it is a valid debt. After contacting AT&T Wireless, they have no records of any outstanding debt with their company and they instructed me to contact Palisades, LLC with a certified letter, requiring them to validate this "debt".

Does anyone have a form letter that I might be able to use to send to Palisades for this purpose?

Yes, I do. Use the first link in my signature for a good debt validation template.

Send it certified mail, return receipt requested. That way they will be required to sign for it, and when they do, a copy of that signature as well as the date and time of receipt will be sent back to you. If it ever comes down to a prove you requested it case, theres your proof

I just recieved a summons to court for a 856.00 bill from att that palisides owned.i contacted the attornesy office for palisides and he told me i can pay 1400.00 to keep it from going to court.i asked for a break down of the costs and he said he cannot give me that info.i then called palisides and they said i have to deal with there lawyer.the initial att bill was less that 200.00 is it worth going to court to fight this for these outragous mark ups or should i just pay it and not inquire any more court cost?

This is my first call from them, but at 8:30 on a Sunday morning I had to figure out who would call at that time. So I googled the 201 number. I don't have any unpaid debt that I know of, and I dont have a cingular or att account. What can I do to stop this BEFORE it becomes a problem? How do I check my CR report (for free- and I mean, really free) and make sure I'm ok?
