How long do county clerks office keep records on file

Hi again, i have posted a few threads tonite, but I have found something that i want to know.
When a summons is filed with a county clerks office does that summons go on file at the clerks office to be kept for records. I am asking because I went to get a copy or at least see the original summons to find out when and how it was served if it was at all(since i never saws or hear anything about one being given to me)and the clerk said they had nothing on record in regards to me about a summons.
Does this mean a summons was never filed at the county clerks office???
2nd part - Is there a set time or law stating how long records are kept at clerk's offices.
