Ok , so while being 18 (about 2006) I opened an account with Steinhafles for 1500$ after 6 months I had a late payment , and they jacked up my % to something ridiculous like 40 + and all of the sudden i owe 3300$. I called them to take care of it , but they were really difficult to work with , than I had to change job , my wife lost her job , so long story short it never got paid. Now i got letter from "Asset Acceptance LLC" asking me to settle 4800 for just one time payment of 99$ . REally ? usually if it sounds to good to be true it is.

Any advise on this matter?

:D As a legitimate debt collector I can tell you that it can be quite frustrating dealing with debtors that don't understand the laws. If you are getting a call from a collection agency, ask politely for validation of the debt. Once they verify the original creditor and the amount you owe it is the consumers responsibility to follow the chain of titile to verify the debt. NOT THE COLLECTORS. It's actually pretty easy. You can contact the creditor and verify the original account number and date opened.

Hi All, I've been reading over these pages for a few days now and I am currently in payday loan hell. I was able to realize that I have currently overpaid one of my payday loans $1012.50. How stupid could I have been. But all of you here have helped me feel better and realize what a mess I got myself into.So I sent off my letters to all of the pdl's and waiting to hear from them(if I ever do). I currently have two other pdl's open and only owe a few dollars left and Im willing to pay them even if it's only a few bucks.

Has anyone had success in revoking ACH access to USA Cash Express a.k.a Payday-Loan-Yes? I can't close my account now because it is negative.

I have an old CC debit that was being collected on by one of the well known debt collectors. I sent them a DV request several months back which they never responded to. They pretty much went quiet and I didn't here from them again. Now several months later a different debt collector is trying to collect on the same debt. Is it legal for a collector to transfer the debt to a secondary collector if they failed to respond to my DV request?

Hi Everyone, I took out a payday loan last July with Western Sky. They immediately sold it to Cash Call. The total amount with finance charges was $850. I have now paid $826.82. I have closed my bank account to stop the money from coming out. They now are calling and emailing me. The crazy thing is that I log into Western Sky and see my payment schedule, but don't have any log-in to cash call(says I don't exist). It seems like my loan is still through Western Sky.

Are all the pdl companies that say they follow "tribal" laws illegal?

Last week I received a call from a lady claiming she was an investigator for an unpaid payday loan. She neglected to name the company she was working for but did leave a number which was apparently for a company called "Prudential" according to the automated voice. She said I owed a specific amount of money and that it had to be paid via credit or debit card, neither of which I have. I called back later that day and ended up talking to some guy.
