Can creditors do income verification checks? Will they straight ask you what your salary is? How do you respond? My income is fairly decent but it is all relative. I still cannot pay my bills due to extenuating circumstances (upside down on my house, ongoing medical bills, paycut, bonus elimination, and unfortunately what looks like a pending divorce). I am negative every month. Thanks

6 yrs ago I co-signed for my nephew to go to school, the loans are with Sallie Mae. Upon graduation he was out of school for a year before finding work. He didn't bother to keep them informed of his status or try and consolidate the 2 loans. They are now in default and they are coming after me quite aggressively. Even though he is working can they sieze my va benefits, social security, and bank account?

I have proof that a CA violated the FDCPA by continuing to send me letters, after I had requested the name and address of the original creditor. (yes I have the certified receipt, and no they never sent me the name /address). I know that I could sue them and/or report them to the FTC, and I would probably at most receive the $1000 the judge may decide for me (as provided by the FDCPA). However, do I now have any bargaining chips with the CA now, whereby in agreement for not reporting them to the FTC and/or suing, I could get a substantial discount on the settlement?

Hi there, Just wanted to know if unlicensed lenders can report negatively on any of the major credit reporting agencies.

Hi. I am seen in my credit report that this guys are saying I owe them money. When I call them they said if I had no proof that I have closed my account with Victoria Secret then that I will loose and I have to pay them. The only proof i have is that Victoria Secret stopped charging me the monthly fee of my subscription. From that day this guys are saying that they open me an account that I never opened. I don't even lived in USA. What should I do? Shall I pay them or shall I file a dispute in my credit report?

I have been reading various posts on PDLs & have gotten some great advice and feel a little hopeful. I have about 8+ PDLs (all but one, Amscot, is internet based). I am an independent contractor and due to the holidays (which means less work and way less pay) and medical bills (all of which are current), I am overwhelmed with PDLs as started taking out others to pay other ones. I am taking the first step and about to close my checking account as have been getting hit w/ $34 overdraft fees 6-9 times/week as my bank is allowing them to go thru and just charging me.

Can a hospital send a detailed medical bill with procedures medication dosages etc to a lawyer to use to collect for the treatment? The hospital sent this to the lawyer who then sent to me the parent of a non minor child 20 years old. It was from a stay in a mental ward. When I questioned the insurance about there payment to the hospital they would not release anything to me with out my child consent how can the hospital send this info out to a lawyer who then sends to me when the insurance company can't help me with out permission. My child is mad I now know all that went on.

Cap One $5900 bal 125 days late- settled for 50% over 3 mos Not a tremendous amount of info on Capital One and settlements so thought I'd share... Had a business Capital One card which of course was personally guaranteed for $4800 which grew to $5900 in the 5 missed payments. Was dealing with Cap 1 till the 120 day mark at which point they turned the account over to Allied Interstate.
