Credit card company hired lawyer to collect debt

14 years 4 months ago
I owe a debt to Capital One and just got a letter from a law office in my city that Capital One hired them to collect this debt. It's the letter that says ' you have 30 days to claim this debt' or something like that. I assume if I don't pay this they will sue me? I definitely want to pay this off ASAP, so if I pay the law office right away will my debt be okay with them and I won't get sued? Would it be better to pay Capital One directly or pay the law firm, or does it not matter? Thanks

Long story short 12 years ago I had a credit card go into collections and was sold to a collection agency who then sold it to Midland Credit. Midland put 15 different listings on my credit report for the same account, but changed the dates and account number for each listing. I fought it with the reporting agency(s) and won. They removed all accounts since it was over the 7 year limit. For the past 2 years I have been getting daily recorded messages from Midland. Midland sold the same account to 4 different collection agencies that call me daily.

Repossession on Credit Report

14 years 4 months ago
Ok - I just signed up with Lexington Law after a friend referred me to them to get my credit history straightened out a little. I have a repossession on all 3 reports dating back to 2008 that is from 5th 3rd Bank. They took my car, I went up to the bank and paid it off (I was young and dumb...just would be late on payments even if I had the money) and I got the car back. My question is...am I wasting my time and money with Lexington Law because I actually paid it off and Fifth Third didn't have to go through a credit agency?

Car Repo and Bankruptcy

14 years 4 months ago
I had my car repo'd, having alot of financial issues since I lost my spouse, my first question, if the car sells for more then I owe, do they have to give me the difference ? I owe very little and it's worth alot. Also, in Va , can a house be excluded if I decide to file bankruptcy ? Thanks

Looking for a recommendation

Been looking all over the web with no real luck and was hoping someone here could help. I have a few old debts I need to clear off my credit history as well as a few state/federal tax issues, not to mention a realistic need for some major financial planning education. I have no credit card debt because I have not had any credit cards for many years since I got in trouble with them earlier in my life and did not wish to repeat that mistake although I realize that one might be necessary to help get my credit score up eventually.

Payday loan help in New Jersey

14 years 4 months ago
Help!! I was in a really big bind and just took out 4 payday loans in NJ. Magnum for 780.00 Plain Gree for 700. United Credit for 500.00 Zip19 for 200.00 I realized now what a big huge mistake this was because I cannot afford to pay this back and all the interest. As I'm reading this forum I see that payday loans are illegal in NJ and I only have to pay back the prinicpal which I can try to manage but I cannot afford to pay back all of the interest, Plain Green alone is charging me 1800 dollars just for 700 which is insanity!
