Can ur company stop collection call?

In January of 2011, I was mailed a debt collection letter from a collection attorny's office. I did not recognize the debt, so I sent a DV CMRR. I recieved proof of delivery, and no DV from attorney. I am now recieving notice from an attorney who wants to help me fight the suit filed against me. When I went to the court of record and looked up the suit, it was paid for by the collection attorney I requested DV from. Is this a FDCPA viloation. I am not sure how to proceed. I have not been served yet.

Hello- (I'm in AZ) I recently got out of the PDL drama, closing my Bank of America account, paying them all off and opening a new BofA bank account. (Thanks largely in part to this forum and all the help and guidance on here!) However, I am a total idiot and during a weak moment, ended up with 2 more PDL's on the new account. One is Speedy Cash but it's a title loan and I'm planning on paying it in full within the next month. I am current on it. I also had a $300 PDL with Advance Me Today that I've now paid a total of $625 on, with them saying I still owe $225 more.

Hey guys I have a question regarding a private student loan taken out back in college and I haven't been able to pay it off. Now that my initial panic has worn off, I need some help, or just even words of encouragement from someone who has survived this situation. About an hour ago a policeman showed up at my front door :shock: with a paper that says a legal action has been filed against me demanding relief, and unless a written defense is made by myself or an attorney within 20 days, there will be a default judgement. I owe the money, I want to pay it off, it's just that for the last two months it's been payments or food, not both.

:confused: Hello, I live in California and I had co signed for a loan for American Education Services. At the time that I signed I was gainfully employed and now I am disabled. They have sent this to collections I believe as it now shows on my credit as National Collegiate Trust. I have read and applied for the Discharge Application of the total and permanent Disability form but when I try and call the Dept of Education they say they have no records on my SS#. My credit report does state that : Claim filed with government.

Currently in a 30yr fixed at 5% and paid for 91 mos. payment is $750 w/ins & tax incl.. Have a 2nd. mort. at 10.75 % and paid for 72 mos. payment being $286/ mo. Have unsecured debt of about $30,000. Able to pay bills, just not making much headway in getting the unsecured stuff whittled down. Can get refi. at 4.75%, closing costs of $3900.00 with mort. ins. tacked on for 60 mos. at about $89/mo.
