where does the informationcontained in a credit report come from?

On February 9 of this year I received a phone call from this company. I did not acknowledge the debt was mine. They wanted the last 4 of my husbands social security number and I did not give it to them. I have been waiting ever since for them to send something in writing but have not received anything. They call all the time and I do not answer the phone. I would like to send them a dv letter but I need an account number. What should I do? :confused:

Are the collectors in the obligation to contact me by writing after contact me by phone, or simply they only need to do by phone? I talked with them, an I denied the debt, but they never asked for my address.Can they sue me ,without first send me a notice by mail? Thanks

I have had success on this site dealing with other issues, like Payday loans, etc. I am now unable to pay the minimium payment on my credit cards. I am underwater on my mortgage, and overall going through a tough time financially. I have a decent job and steady income. I live in PA. I have begun to recieve letters from collection agencies. I have sent validation letters. My question, I guess, is what do I do once I begin recieving the validation. I recieved one so called validation, but it was simply a copy of my last four months statements.

Ok, my husband and I have been looking at this site for a few weeks now and we have sent out our letter but we are not sure what the next steps are and what to do about the bank...

My mom is 89 years old and has a lot of credit card debt. The reasons for that are too complicated to get into here. She's in poor health and as I see it the debt is tenuous at best. She hasn't been able to pay any of them due to increasing medical bills and hospital visits. The collection letters are coming now and I can see things snowballing. Her only income is her ss/retirement. I've talked to the collectors on her behalf, explaining that she's old and ill, lives on SS (which cannot be touched) and has no assets. They all say i need to send a POA before they will go into any detail.
