can i be sent to jail if I close my checking account to prevent ACH's from payday lenders from debiting?

is it illegal in ohio to close your bank account to prevent payday lenders from automatically debiting their payment? I am trying to get out from under 6 payday loans, and I was advised to close my account, open another account and try debt consolidation. My problem is I can't afford to go to jail for nonpayment of these bills. If I go to jail, I lose my job, then I am really screwed :(

I am trying to get my 6 payday loans under control. I was advised to close my current bank account and open another that way ach's could not be debited. Is it illegal in Ohio to do that? I have been trying to fix my credit. Between my X husband and sister taking out credit cards in my name to old debt that creditors are saying I owe from last year that are almost 7 yrs old, I can't get anywhere. How long and what can I do? I mean one creditor said I paid for 4 yrs and have just put me in last month. That's nuts, because I paid for the auto and never knew I owed the debt, in which I don't. Can they do this?

I have several storefront payday loans in CA and I can't afford to pay them anymore. I'm putting my bills first now. Have a few questions. 1. What can they do if I don't pay them? They have checks as collateral but the checks are for an account I closed because of internet loan companies. I don't want to get in trouble for the checks so what should I do? 2. Is it true that if I try to make any payment arrangements (no matter how small) they can't take me to court? Say if I tell them I can only afford to pay $20 a month shouldn't they accept that instead of trying to take me to court?
