My mother is 70 years old. One of her credit accounts has been sold off to a collection agency. Now the collection agency is threatening to sue her. My mother's only income is from Social security. What I want to know is that can the SS income be garnished?

My husband and I are both self employed and have taken a major income hit over the last few years. We're getting close to running out of reserve funds for living, mortgage, etc. other than our 401ks funds. I have a $200K WellsFargo HELOC on our primary residence. We want to keep our house and are trying to determine a strategy to debt settle the HELOC. I tried twice to modify the HELOC and have already attempted debt settlement once. I haven't missed any payments yet. They ask for 90%! Next step would be to stop making payments -- out of necessity.

I borrowed 1000.00 online from Western Sky Financial and overnight they sold the loan to Cash Call. I attempt to log into Cash Calls website to check my information and I select Texas and it tells me they cannot loan in Texas. Is it legal for them to buy my loan from Western Sky? I am thinking of closing my acct and paying the remainder of the principal only.

In the beginning of 2006 bank of america increased my interest rate and my payment went from 190 to 301 per month....I called them to see if they would work with me....I was told to tighten my budget and get a part time job.....so they closed my account but I kept paying them a monthly payment....it wasn't what they wanted but I didn't miss a month.....I pay them back over 5000 dollars and they have increased my bill and extra 4000.....then the lawyer that I was making monthly payments to sent me a letter this past July stating that they appreciated me paying but they need to resolve this issu

I have a question about CheckSmart, and their lending practices in Ohio. The Ohio law states that $500 is the maximum allowed to borrow. Loans can not be taken out the same day as they are paid off, and no more than 4 loans can be taken in a years time. With this said, why does CheckSmart allow me to borrow $800, reborrow the same day, every payday? I am in PDL hell, know I'm responsible, but wondering about the lending practices of this company. Is there ANY recourse???

I live in DE and have payday loans with Manhattan Processing, Ace Cash Services, Alpine Loan and Black Card Loan. So far Ace has agreed to accept a settlement for principal that I borrowed. Alpine has tacked on an addition $350 fee and Manhattan is telling me from $400 they want $1468. I was called by a harrassing collection agency called Piedmont out of North Carolina, I think, threatening to fax my information to Wilmington County Sheriff. I have no idea if this place exists or not. Does anyone know if they can legally charge me that amount to pay back a defaulted loan?
