I have been making $100.00 payments for a Florida Hospital bill (Balance is $4790.00) and today I received a collection letter and they have added my wife's name to the bill, can they do this? She didn't sign anything at hospital so how can they add her name and can this effect her credit?

My brother and sister-in law have 2 cars. My brother has purchased his car in November 2008 and my sister-in-law in 2009. My brother pays $500 on the car loan each month. My father has just been served by the courts about a debt he owes. How can he stop this from going to court. He has 20 days to respond to the courts. Can he contact the credit card company to work out a payment plan at this point.

These people have been calling me (no message) since 10/21/10. I made the mistake of picking up the phone once, and was asked about a debt. I hung up on them. They've called 1-2 times daily since then. In the last week or two, they've left 3 prerecorded messages. They have not sent me anything in writing. The debt is from the early 1990s (1991-1992). This is past any SOL of which I'm aware, including that of my state (Texas). I'm considering sending a debt validation letter, instead of a cease-communication/C&D.
