My Roller Coaster Ride with Chase

15 years 9 months ago
4-20-2010 I’m 200 days late with Chase, every time I talk to them they say I don’t qualify for a settlement. They say, charge off is 7 months, April 30th is the charge off date. I called chase 2-3 times a month for 7 months. Debt is 17k, I tell them, all I get is social security of about 600 a month, I lost my job a year ago and nobody will hire a 72 yr old woman. I live in CA where the job rate is very low. I have 8 total CC that I'm going to try and settle with one at a time.

Student loans disappear after 7 years???

15 years 9 months ago
I have been faithfully paying on my student loans for several years now. A friend advised me yesterday, however, that if a loan goes unpaid for 7 years, then it is automatically written off and you don't have to repay it. She said she has been dodging her Sallie Mae loans for 9 months and plans to keep it up until 2016 when her loans are written off by the lenders. Then she's debt-free without paying a cent. Is this true? Thanks!

California PDL Victims: Check this out!!

15 years 9 months ago
This is from the California Labor Federation's weekly blog, and is one more reason why we have to educate, educate, educate about the damage PDL's can do! The payday lending industry claims to provide an important service to its borrowers, who may have nowhere else to turn for an emergency loan. The problem is those same borrowers, who take out an average of 10 payday loans per year, are charged up to 459% APR.

Debt relief

I have currently been speaking to a company about taking over my credit card debt. They said not to pay any balance to the credit card company and that my monthly payment is around 500.00 to them. They said my credit will be negatively impacted because I needed to show hardship and then they would be able to negotiate the balance. I am nervous because even though I have some debt, my credit is still decent. If I pay this debt off in 2 years with this company then will my credit score be good again? I read that it will take 7 years to restore?

Settled with CHASE for 33% today

15 years 9 months ago
I settled with CHASE today for 33%. Total on two cards was $42,000 and we settled at $14,000. My background is this - I was a minority owner in a business that failed last year and my name was on a number of the cards and commercial lines. I made payments on them for eight months until my savings were depleted then, being still unemployed, consulted with an attorney about filing Chapter 13. They firm advised me to file but after much deliberation I decided I'd try to settle things myself.

Cap One Account turned over to Johnson Riddle & Mark LLC

15 years 9 months ago
Hello, I have heard that this law office is one of the worst. I just got my first letter from them last week. I right away sent back a brief letter, disputing the validity of their claim and electing arbitration. I received another letter today, which simply has my name, address, social and date of birth and the amount they claim I owe, saying that their investigations show that it is a match and a valid claim....???? All they did was verify my personal information, that doesn't verify their monetary claim.
