My uncle is on permanent disability from an auto accident. His wife who recently passed away had a auto loan. Can they garnish his disability or any insurance settlement that he may receive???

What's the best payment method to pay for a settlement? I read that you shouldn't provide the creditors with any bank account information, so that means I can't send them a check or pay them via online banking... right? Is a cashier's check the only way to go? Thanks

Quick question. I do not want to provide the creditors with my cell number, but I'm also not home during the day. I want to keep communication lines open to help prevent from getting sued, but I don't want them calling my cell. Does anyone know if it is typical for them to leave a voicemail? Thanks

Bumping this up as I mistakenly put it in an old thread. I am dealing with these clowns right now. My Sprint bill was assigned to a collector (Allied Interstate). I had reported my phone stolen to Sprint and then I get this bill in the mail for $360! Then the notice from Allied says I owe $576. So I send them debt validation letter (RR). I get back the card, but no info. About a month later I receive notice from Progressive Management that THEY are collecting for Sprint.

Just finished settling on my 3 cards and since I found good info here I thought I would pass along my experiences. Have not made a payment on any of the 3 since July 2009 so all three were past 180 days overdue. Chase -- owed $20,000. They sent it to a lawyer group who said I had 30 days or they would take legal action. Went to the lawyers website and was able to do ALL of it online, never even had to make a phone call. Offered them $7000 and figured they would counter offer but within 3 hours they emailed and said "Overnight us a Cashiers Check and all is good and done".
