Can I settle cards if not in my name?

16 years 1 month ago
So 4 or the 5 cards we are going to try to settle are in my husband's name. We fully expect them to be calling his work. He is not going to have time to deal with them and he has not researched this like I have. Can he say to them "I can't speak with you at work and I give my permission for you to speak to my wife and pls call her at home etc..." Will they do that? I want to be the one that they deal with. I understand this whole process better. It is not that he is not willing it really is the simple fact of time and work is not going to be the place to do it.

Seperate account just for paying settlements?

16 years 1 month ago
Should I have a seperate account that would only have enough money in it to pay settlements. For example, we are saving now for settlements. Just starting this month to not pay. When/if offers come in I would deposit money in that account and pay cc from that account only? Do I ever give a payment over the phone or do I tell them I will over night a check or what? I can't seem to find anything in the search for this. All the cc are in my husband's name except one. So I was thinking I would open a checking account that is not tied to any other accounts we have in just my name.

Im a jr and my fathers using my SSN

16 years 1 month ago
I first finded out about this approximately 5-7 years ago, when I tried to order comcast cable and they told me I owe over a thousand dollars for not returning cable boxes. I knew it was my father because the service was linked to his mailing address at that time. Comcast threw it out because the account was open when I was approximately 16 years old. Approximately 4 years later I did a free credit report where I saw a lot of fraud accounts and general information that I knew nothing about. For example, the credit report had both our ages and just about all mind and his mailing addresses.

Derogotory Info coming off

16 years 1 month ago
I have 2 BK's on my report, although they were the same incident (Ch 11 converted to a 7). The first one will drop off next month, leaving just under 2 years for the second to die. Do you expect this will raise my score at all? I have 4 credit cards opened, and they are all at 0 balance. I have recently (last 4 months) paid off a car loan and a personal loan. There are no late payments recorded.

EPP w/Check into cash

16 years 1 month ago
I have been renewing my loan with checkintocash (storefront) for a yr now and I am tired. Its costing me $90 a month and I am getting no where. I have read about EPP but I am affraid to go inside the store. It seems these people can turn on you fast. I can pay it off in 4 payments with no problem. Has anyone here dealt with this company? Should I just call the corp office. I am affraid of retalation for just asking for a EPP. Any advise here would be great. I am just so tired.

Debt settlement on a secured loan?

16 years 1 month ago
From my understanding, one cannot settle a debt on a secured loan. But in my case I had a car that was totaled that was financed through Wells Fargo. My car insurance paid off most of the loan. My crappy GAP insurance paid a portion of the remainder leaving me with a balance. Wells Fargo already sent me a 1099-C for this remaining debt that was "cancelled", even though I am still paying on it and have about $1600.00 left.

CC+VW repo question

16 years 1 month ago
Hi guys so here is my story: I have $6K CC debt which is not past due yet. I'm leasing 2009 VW GTI with VW Credit. So my current situation is: 6 month ago I got laid off and been thinking since then about returning my car. My current income is really low: $1-$1.5K a month. My rent is $600, minimum CC payments on all cards (Citi, Chase, Amex blue) is $300, lease payment incl tax is $420, insurance $150 which comes out to $1470, so I'm out of budget. If ill do volunteering repo I'll owe VW around $8-$10K+$6k CC debt. Total lets say $20k with worst scenario.

Collections and credit score

16 years 1 month ago
I had a collections amount from 2003 that showed up in 2006 for a storage unit in california. The statute here is 4 years. However how long will this stay on my credit report? Its $600 should i try to settle with them? I never got any calls from them. I found it when i checked my credit report.
