Link to this article about the hugh debt collector business in Buffalo New York; some of the tactics they use are heartbreaking (and many of us have been exposed to these bottom-feeders). http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Buffalos-debt-collectors-apf-2226423347.html?x=0

New Bank?

16 years 2 months ago
Ugh I need a new bank.. I bank at a local credit union, I was reported to chex systems awhile ago.. like 4 years ago and it is marked as paid. I have opened other bank accounts since than but do not like my credit union! I am really interested in a place like Bank of America, I know they are horrible but they give automatic overdraft to people with direct deposit (or so my co-workers tell me) I just hate my credit union! Like i made an automatic payment for my car insurance. It needed to set up or my policy will be cancelled.

when will chapter 7 be discharged

16 years 2 months ago
I had my meeting of creditors in July. My trustees statement said they are going to be taking $1100 from my checking account (I had just got my check where I get paid monthly) and my 2010 tax refund. That is the only assets I have. The notice said the trustee will abandon everything else. There has been no objections and the deadline to file objections was in August. My case still has not been discharged? Does anyone know how long it will take to discharge? One other question. What if I want to voluntarily dismiss my chapter 7 filing now.

Loan Point USA (Geneva Roth)

16 years 2 months ago
Hi Everyone, I'm hoping I can get some help here. I had a $400 loan with these people and have since paid back all most twice the amount. I send them a letter stating that Pay day loans are illegal in the state of CT and request that they cease and desist all further debits against my account. I also filed a complaint with the BBB. Today I received the following email (below); I need your help in how I should be responding to this. I feel I have paid back more than and don't intend to make any arrangements of paying back anymore. Any suggestions on how to handle this would be great.

post-amex settlement question

16 years 2 months ago
I called up Amex today b/c I am receiving paper statements from them on two Amex settled accounts. They told me that I will still have a balance with them FOREVER despite the settlements that were completed in Nov, including when I look at the accounts online but they will stop the statements. The rep said they do this b/c I "technically" still owe them money and that I will get denied if I reapply for an Amex card in the future unless I pay the balances. Also, the rep said my credit reports should reflect $0 balance though. Has this been everyone's experiences?

Can new credit lines help in improving score?

16 years 2 months ago
My credit score had suffered a major setback two years back with $18k worth of debt. However, I had since crawled my way out of that mess and am pretty confident of myself now. But, my score hadn't improved much over the time. :( So, I was wondering if opening new credit lines would help me in improving my score. I had to close my credit lines during the process of debt settlement. I'm looking for an auto loan and seriously need to improve my score to qualify for good rates. Any suggestions!

Settling Old Credit

16 years 2 months ago
When I was 18 I accrued alot of debt. I have a large amount of past credit, about 10 credit cards. They are all in collection agencies by now. I haven't payed them in about 2 years or so. I will be getting a large lump sum of money in about a month. Not enough to pay the whole balances in full but to settle with them. My questions are, what would settling the accounts do? Will it hurt my credit more? Also, should I attempt to do this on my own or should I go to someone and have them do it. I heard sometimes going to a company could reflect badly on your credit report.
