I received a message on my answering machine from an Officer John Blackstone (not sure if this is the last name as he is very hard to understand.). He said he was preparing to file a lawsuit against my social security number by the government or something like that. As I said, he was very hard to understand. He also something about my residence being investigated ... at least that is what I think he said. I have received calls from United Legal before and I am thinking these are the same people based on what I have read on this website. The callback number he left was 201-215-6860.

I talked with Chase last night about a 9500 balance. I offered 20% and they returned an offer for 25%. I accepted and now am waiting for a letter from them.

I owe close to $30,000 in credit card debt. I was struggling to make the minimum payments and wasn't making any progress. At this rate It was going to take me over 7 years to pay off my debt. So I decided to stop paying, save up money and "DIY" settlement! Im two months behind with AMEX and one month with Chase. AMEX is been calling like crazy about 5 or 6 times a day. I spoke with them only once (last month) and told them that I was going to pay the minimum in two weeks, but only to get rid of them. Two weeks passed and I didn't make the payment.

If you are recieving unemployment, can I qualify for debt settlement ?

I have a CC debt from Capital One that is over at NCO. The balance right now is $3856.94. I have been able to get them down to $2800.00 but they have not sent me the settlement offer in writing. They know I will not pay until I receive it. Now I am thinking I should have tried harder to get it lower. Should I wait until the end of next month and try again? Jennifer
