Collectors Calling my Parents

Hi, I live in a studio next to my parents home. when I moved from another state back to my home town, i didn't have a phone set up so i used my parents home number. Once I got my own phone set up I made the mistake of not changing the number on my accounts, so now that i am past due on many of my cc accounts, creditors and collectors are calling my parents home and they are asking me to tell creditors to stop calling their number. The problem is that now I don't have my own cell phone or home phone number because I simply cannot afford it anymore.

Are they licensed, where to check

Your website states: "Once the collectors validate your debt, you need to check if at all they are licensed to collect debt in your state." Why not check this first? Who do you check it with, the state Attorney General's office?

online credit card gambling

I have just had the craziest 2 weeks of my life. Finances are tight, not working, so i delude myself into thinking online gambling will provide the income required to ride out the recession. Anyhow, my thought process was completely wrong. I have wagered, and lost 10 grand on my Amex, Citibank Amex, and Chase Mastercard. Can anyone on this forum, offer some good advice, on how to get myself out of this hole i have dug for myself. Thanks in advance

Eating on a Tight Budget

A few weeks ago I wrote a story on hub pages that a couple of you may have read called "Fish Cakes and Spaghetti." It was a meal served in NY bars that was cheap back in the 1950s and 60s. Tonight I suggested to someone to eat beans and rice instead of taking out a payday loan. One of my favorite cheap meals at home is a fried egg over spaghetti with torn up ham and lots of butter. I got that from Mark Bitman on TV. One member who I will keep anonymous catches fresh water fish to help feed her kids! What do you make to save money when it comes to eating at home? We can all use some tips!

Settling a few credit cards at a time and their implications...

I'm interested in debt settlement concerning my 40K in unsecured debt. The biggest question I'm struggling with is the timing sequence. I'm only ready to settle about half my debt since my lump sum is not the amount I need. So, the biggest question for me is, will my creditors be willing to settle my balances when I'm current with other creditors? I realize some people feel it is mandatory to default on all credit cards to begin the settlement process. In my situation, I feel this would be really risky. Bottom line, I think I'll end up getting sued.

PLEASE HELP CAR REPO

I recieved what I guess is a notice of defieciency 5 whole months after my car was repoed. The letter states that I owe $7,996.00 and the car will be auctioned off May 26th. The funny thing about this is the CA that has the account recieved the account last year when it was only a charge-off. When I tried to make payment arrangements with the OC they told me that they couldnt accept payment and to contact the CA who told me that the amount was only $6496.00. I paid them $2000.00 bringing the balance down to $4496.00. This amount was also reflected on my CR.
