Home equity loan to pay off private consolidation

17 years 1 month ago
I am saving to buy a home and I want to put down a large down payment. Would it make sense to take out a home equity loan in a few years to payoff a large portion or all of my student loans? I am soley considering this decision because there are no real tax incentives for paying student loans so I thought if I use a home equity to pay off the balance the interest later paid on the home equity is at least tax deductible.

DV letter

17 years 1 month ago
I am wondering if I should send a DV letter to a collection agency that I got a letter from yesterday. I do not dispute the debt, but the amount is now almost $3,000 more than what the OC said was owed, I am thinking probably interest being added, since this was on a voluntarily repoed car. I would just like to know for sure what I supposedly owe and if they are legal to collect. I live in OR. If I do send a DV, what do I tell them, if by sending one does this make the SOL start all over again or what, do the CA's take it as I will pay the debt or what.

high credit card debt

Did you know that a reputable debt settlement company can reduce your debt as much as 60% and that you can be debt free in as little as 12 to 48 months? Before you decide to go with a debt settlement company there are several things you should know. 1. It will effect your credit, but so will not paying on time. 2.Why is Debt settlement a better alternative to Bankruptcy or debt consolidation? Bankruptcy will effect your credit for at least 10 years. With debt settlement, your credit will improve quickly once your debts are settled.

Judgements/sue

I am new to the board and hope to get some answers to my dilemma. I live in WI and I am disabled, so that is my only income. I had two credit cards from a past marriage that I was responsible for. They started out at about 5 or $6,000.00 each. I ignored each for the following fact 1) my ex was the one that used them, and 2) knowing I am on disability and will never be able to work again they cannot touch my disability income so choose again to ignore.

What do I do next after they have "validated" my debt?

17 years 1 month ago
I leased a car and the dealership said I never paid the down payment. I did but it was with a money order and I have no proof. When I disputed the debt with a letter asking to validate, they sent the original contract back with the $2000 part of the down payment on the lease contract circled with "outstanding debt". They have no proof that it wasn't paid and the finance manager and I both signed at delivery of vehicle. What do I do next to dispute their letter that states they have validated the debt? This, to me, is not a clear validation.

You really just need to research the company as much as possible and go with your gut instinct. There are companies out there who really do help people get out of debt.

All cards at once or a few at a time?

17 years 1 month ago
Hi, I have been reading these forums extensively for the past few days. I have piled up a 35k of unsecured debt and i am struggling now, and i really wish i could quickly eliminate this debt. I am current on all my cards and with good APR rates. Here is the breakdown Citi 12k 0% Citi 8k 16% Chase 3k 8% Chase 8k 3.9% Discover 3k 3.9% I am considering going the sattlement route that will hopefully enable me to pay all of these off with in one year. ( assuming 35% sattlement rate). now, * Should i stop all payments to all cards at once?

world finance loan

i live in texas and i have a "secured" loan through world finance... i lost my job and now had to move to try to get stable and find a job thats gunna pay decent, i told them i have no ways of paying the loan at the moment and that i would pay them when i get my first check, im actively seeking employment and they are now threating me with court papers and garnishing my account. Being that its secured i know they can take what was collateral but is it possible going to jail for not being able to pay a secured loan back when they want the money not the items?
