Why you should file complaints properly

17 years 2 months ago
Hello, If a creditor harasses, demeans, or lies to you in order to collect a debt, they are breaking the law. It requires the injured party to file charges, or at least a complaint with the proper authorities. The FTC is a great place to start, but also you should go to your state Attorney General's office. This is the case of Topco Financial Services. Due to a lot of consumer complaints, the state of Washington Attorney General's office filed a formal lawsuit against them. http ://blog.

Looking for Advice - CC Debt ($50k)

17 years 3 months ago
Hi - Brand new to this site, but looking for help and advice on what I should do. Have 5-6 credit cards with approx $50,000 balance on them. Average interest is ~13%. Still have a decent credit score so dont want to hurt that if possible, but the balance has grown large enough that its getting difficult to keep up payments. I have read a lot about Debt Consolidation and Debt Settlement, but dont have any experience with them. Can anyone please give me some ideas for how to start to get out of debt?

Is it true that settlements will now have to be made within 3 months?

17 years 3 months ago
A reliable source in the settlement industry told me the other day that as of February 1, 2009, any settlement deals made must be paid within a 3 month time frame. Does anyone know if there is any validity to this statement? I was really hoping to make some of my biggest settlements with a 6 month payment option (or longer).

17 years 3 months ago
Hi I have an account on my credit report for Portfolio Recovery Assoc. for a credit card from Providian. I have not been contacted about this debt in over 3 years. I do owe it, but want to settle it and get it over with. It says I owe 13,000. I was thinking about calling them and asking what would they take, then getting them to send me it in writing so i could send a cashiers check. Is this a good idea?

Facing Court Judgement

I am in real trouble and I just don't know what to do. I owe AMEX 16000 plus dollars and now they want me to pay them all the funds at a reduced rate or take me to court and garnish my wages and or put a lein on my home. Last summer they allowed me to pay a small montlhy payment to them..but that agreement was ended when I was late with my payment. I am this much in debt due to the fact I used my cc to pay off the Irs. I know owe the IRS again. I am self employed. I have no reserved funds. I earn a decent living but it all goes out for bills.
