Possible to negotiate lower payoff without affecting Credit Rating?

17 years 3 months ago
I'm working on paying off some debt, and my next focus is our Capitol One card. We have made at least the minimum payments on time, etc. But I just want to be done with one less card. I called to say I want to close our card and payoff - if they would accept $3100 as 'paid in full' (our current balance is $3900). But - after doing some research I've found that they SAY it will be considered 'paid in full' with an R9 rating... Would this also be the case if I pay off an account that is NOT defaulted or late?

Suggestion to fight MTE Financial or any other Tribal immune PDL co.

First off, I would like to request a sticky for this post. I understand this is the first post I have made, but I felt it was of such importance that I registered at this website just so I could attempt to help others who may have problems or be concerned with this company. Secondly, I would like to state that I am not an attorney, nor am I trying to give anyone legal advice. Anything in this post can obviously be used to help you if it can, but I cannot guarantee any outcome. Finally I want to explain my intentions.

500FastCash legal in California?

17 years 3 months ago
I just read that the California Department of Corporations took 500FastCash and some other companies to court in California ( Agoura Hills ) saying they were illegal and the court decided state laws don't apply because they are on an indian reservation. Is that true? Everywhere I looked on this site it said they were illegal and I should close my bank account and not pay them anymore since I had paid more than what I borrowed. So I did that. Am I going to get in trouble now?

Cease and desist letter

17 years 3 months ago
I would like to write a C & D letter to a 3rd party collection company that is harassing me. They are calling for someone with my name but it is not me. I see samples but they include acct# which I don't have because it is not me. And include dealing with the company directly but again, it's not me and not my debt. Is there a sample letter for contacting the incorrect person? Thanks for your help

Thanks - I'm getting out of Credit Card Debt

17 years 3 months ago
Thanks to this community I was able to negoiate over $ 25,000 of credit card debt away myself. I had 4 cards with balances over 20,000 dollars each - I reached a point where I couldn't pay minimums any more becase my late or short payments drove the finance charge rates over 26 % on 3 cards and 32 % on another. What a stupid, ignorant logic the banks use. I can't pay the minimum balance as it is - so now why don't you raise the balances even higher. So to get back to the success part...

Strategy Help Please

17 years 3 months ago
After many months of making major lifesyle and household budgetary changes, the dust has settled and though income and credit rating are strong, the amount going out in debt repayment is at or higher than what is coming in. I am debating a strategy of not paying for my highest cc which has a minimum payment of $900 per month. I will use that money to aggresssively pay down my other debt. I will then go back (a year to 18 months from now) and pay back this creditor. What are the downsides to this strategy? My credit shot? Can I get sued? WHat else?

New - Need Help

17 years 3 months ago
I've been looking around and reading, and I'm not really sure if I can do all of the things that have been discussed on here. Apparently the laws in Missouri are more lender-biased than in some states. Even though I haven't paid much more than principal on some, I'm literally drowning in PDL debt as most of you are/have been in the past. So sad that I have a job making pretty good money, yet don't see a penny of my paycheck every two weeks. Any help or info on my situation is greatly appreciated.
