how do i find out what the debt balance is for a fema loan that the irs is garnishing my income tax refund for the past several years.

3 months ago i signed for debt settlemnt program, 1000$/ month. i deposited 3000$ total. i check my account and i have 1500 $ and the rest went to debt settlement company. Is this not uncommon?

I am just wondering what is better, bankruptcy or a settlement. I have $100,000 in credit card debt and can't pay it off. Like alot of people our income has dropped significantly. Please help.

Hello! I am in Colorado and on Jan. 4 received a summons with a complaint about some old credit card debt (DOLA was Jan, 2004). The amount charged off was ~$5500 and now they're suing me for over $11K (interest, legal fees, etc.). I answered the summons with the affirmative defense of the account being past the SOL of 3 years (although, I don't know if CO's is 3 or 6...there are varying opinions and no account that I can find of any court upholding the 3 year SOL).

My husband and I separated 2 days before my birthday, just as we were scheduled to finally leave this benighted cesspool called Pensacola, Florida. I won't go into details but it's very miserable for me. I'm staying with a roomie and working a crappy temp job to get by. My little cat Missy is dead. She went with my husband to Europe, and one day he had a terrific idea to take her outside to show her the fireworks. The sounds of the explosions scared her and she ran off.

My question to the community is: If I settle with a credit card company on a 10,000 card for 5,000 I will owe taxes on the forgiven 5,000. When tax time comes, what if I don't have the money to pay the taxes? Has anyone had experience with this situation? I have heard the IRS doesn't mess around and they worry me more than the credit card companies. Any insight would be appreciated!

I am currently buying a house on contract. So the deed is still in the current owners name. I have about 30 months to pay on it yet. I have about 45,000 in CC debt. I live in Iowa. I am self employed with a new business and although I am doing good, last year with the economy I made some bad decisions and I am sure I will be making payments to the IRS for last year as well as trying to keep current this year. So my ability to pay off CC debt is going to be tough unless I have just an outstanding year. I am about 1-2 months behind now on most of my bills.
