Just wanted to let everyone know that CashAmerica announced today 11/5/08 that it will be closing all of its Ohio Cashland Stores due to the recent voting polls on Issue 5. Just thought you all would like to know.

I have an old, outstanding balance of $255 from AT&T Wireless. I have had two collection agencies (allied interstate and NCO) contact me about the debt. Both agencies are showing up on my credit report with "seriously past due" collections balances. Within the next couple of weeks, I will have the money in hand to pay the bill, but which one do I pay? Also, how do I get the other account cleared on my credit report?

Could I use one of the cash advance checks, put it in my account and pay for my lawyer fees that way? I'm just trying to figure out how to come up with money for a lawyer. I haven't filed yet, but know I'll need money to do so. I think I saw something about 90 days, so could I cash that check and save the money and file in 90 days? I read this on my Attorneys General web site "File complaints against Internet payday lenders with your state regulator, your state Attorney General, and the Federal Trade Commission. Regardless of where the Internet lender says it is located, it is subject to your state's credit regulations." Will a statement like this be helpful when dealing with my PDLs.

Hello, I got a phone call on Monday saying that I owe aprox. $863 for Direct TV, phone and internet and that my services were shut off at my house in Goodyear, AZ. Problem is I do not have these services, live in NJ, and never been to AZ. Someone got a hold of my social, but spelled my last name wrong and got these services. I filed a police report but they still keep calling! after I gave them the report number. I am beyond freaked out.

A family member is having problem with a debt settlement program. The company doesn't seem to want them to cancel before the first payments are made. what should we do?

I called the newyork banking authority and they said that although payday loans are not legal in new york these companies are legal bec they're licensed outside of the state. they said i have to pay down the loan completely. is this correct - i've closed my bank account and now i'm scared i'm going to get my wages garnished or ruin my credit. my loan companies are sandpoint, impact, shamrock and sagamore and i've paid them all WAY more than the ammount originally borrowd but haven't made a dent in the principal -
