I had credit card for a dept store. CA has been calling trying to collect. The last payment was in 1998. I live in North Carolina. WHat is the best avenue to take. _____________

i am dealing with NCO right now. i had a private student loan go into default after making timely payments for 4 plus years... just a couple of missed payments and it went to collections. i have been treated just as badly as apparently a lot of other people have been treated by NCO, including threats of inprisonment. i want to pay the loan back but i cannot afford what they are asking (a common theme for many of us). i have talked to every lawyer within a 100 mile radius and everyone of them tell me i am screwed and that there is nothing i can do.

I need an advice how to settle my $4000 of American Express. I was behind 2 months of this account because I enrolled to Credit Solutions, they ripped me off, don't do anything, so I cancel them , get the refund back (70%) and enroll to Care One Credit, but they don't handle AMEX. Should I send letter to them to ask them a settlement reducing down first or call them first? I don't know their address? Talked to their customer service, she seemed to be helpless, just want me to pay first. My interest is from 3.9% now become 17%. Please help

I defaulted on a Quickest Cash Advance. The account was sent to Mid-America Credit Bureau. I have spoke with them. I have actually paid $100 of the $300 loan that I defaulted on. i didn't pay anything on the principal before i defaulted. Now there is yet another collection company calling on the same account. What should I do? Should I have even paid the first $100? Has anyone ever been taken to court by Mid-America Credit Bureau? Of course they have threatened that. Thanks

I have several questions about this collection agency. The collection agency is Captial Management Services. Here is a brief background: I foolishly entered into a payment arrangement I could not afford. I was expecting money and was hoping to get in on this settlement Capital Managment was offering me. The collector told me that I had to give him a payment to secure this debt and the checks to use upfront. I was again foolish and went along with this, honestly thinking expected money would take care of this. Well, I am sure you can guess...the expected money never came.

my boyfriend has asked me to marry him. He knows I filed, I don't keep secrets from him. He said we could have a small wedding next year, and that my life isn't over b/c of bk. I don't know what to do. I have not said yes or a no yet. Just a 'let me think about it'. Am I allowed to get married? I don't even know what I can do or what I can not do after my discharge. I don't want to loose him but I don't want to jeopardize his creditworthiness b/c of my financial problems.

Can someone please explain the difference between the two? My payroll department says that there is no differenct that they are both garnishments and will be taking out of pay check. I told them that the assignment is voluntary and I can revoke it. They told me no! The PLS Loan Store in IL is threating to send the wage assignment to my employer to garnish my wages even though I called to negoitiate a payment plan. They told me that it ain't no guarantee that they will not send it before I get a chance to come in to make arrangements.

My wife has a debt that a Collection Agency is trying to collect on. We sent a request for Letter of Validation, but received nothing back. Now they are threatening legal action, and over the phone stated that a Letter of Validation was sent in 2005 to a former address, and that we only had 45 days to respond. Outside of that, they say that they are not obligated to respond to further requests. Thoughts? This is midland credit management we are dealing with.
