New to this site....

I have come to this site quite a few times and read through many posts. Well...I find everyone to be very nice and knowledgable. I always leave here having learned something. So I signed up....smart decision, I feel. I have been working to clean up my credit report for a few months now...sent dispute letters to credit bureaus - came back verified. Sent dispute letters to CA - not giving me enough information to believe I owe what they say I owe. Im stuck now on what to do so I read through these posts for you all's knowledge. Thanks for reading.... :D

More MODS in the "Getting a Loan" forum

Can we have some more MODS in the Getting a loan forum? It seems like lately this Clara Jones is plastering the forum with spam, and the spam stays up for quite a while before it's edited out or deleted. If we had more people that are on all the time that were mods in the forum, it could get deleted sooner.

Best way to handle this?

I have a collection agency that just popped up a few weeks ago and I'm looking for some opinions on what to do next. I sent a debt validation letter (CMRR) and on 4/5/08 they signed for it. Now, this collection agency was never on my credit report and all of the sudden on 4/18/08 they decide to list the debt on my credit report as Open and in Collections. Should I send them a letter saying they have 30 days to remove this from my credit report until they validate my debt?

I have two loans that i have not been able to make arrangements with. I live in Louisiana and want to know my state laws regarding this. I owe 350 to one and only about 150.0 principal to the other. The companies are ameriloan and Geneva Roth.. I had to close my account because i was over 500.00 overdrawn due to these outrageous debits...Any help would be appreciated I can pay off now but have no information on the companies and what would be the best way to go about doing this? Thanks

Debt SOL & the Service Members Civil Relief Act

I have several old debts that are approaching/past their SOL. I am also in the Army and eligible for the Service Member Civil Relief Act. My questions are: 1.) Will being eligible for the SMCRA postpone or push back the SOL for these debts? I have not contacted the collection agencies with this information, nor do I plan to.

What should I pay first or do?

Here it goes. My wife and I each have a car payment which adds up to $680 a month for both of our cars. We don't have credit card debt which is good. She owes about $9,000 on her car and i owe about $14,000 on mine. I just inherited $6,000 from family. Now we don't know what to do. should we use the money to try to pay her car off or use the money to put a down payment on the house. Now we have about $7,000 saved in our savings account a side from the $6,000 i just received. What would be my best decision to use the $6000. Thank you.

25k in CC debt, cannot pay anymore, advice on what to do

OK, I am at the point where we are using the credit cards to buy groceries and cat food and falling deeper and deeper into debt each month. We are just over 25k at this point, spread over four cards, three with Chase, one with Discover. One has a huge debt of 11.3k, but with low interest. The other cards are mid range interest rates. I have got to do something or we will just be ****ed for good in a couple of months. We simply cannot pay four monthly payments a month. It comes to $650 or so and then we are wiped out and forced to use the credit cards for basic needs. What do I do?

I would like to know if a payday loan company can charge you more than the amount of the loan you took out. I took a check loan for 567.00 but they are charging me legal fees for 700.00 more. I have paid payments and paid the amount of the check. They company is from las vegas but they have a storefront here in utah. give me advice do i need to pay the legal fees also. I have another loan where they are debiting my account twice a week. I have tried to make payment arrangements and told them to stop debiting my account but they still do. What is your advice. i am in Utah.

Letter

Received letter, like many of you, I tried calling to the toll free number and was unable to talk to a real person, just a very rude lady and kept hanging up on me. Please don't even give them your SS #, this does not sound legit, please very careful. Don't feel intimidated by this "law office".

CA alters date on summons

I was served a summons for my debt by a lawyer Farrell & Seldin representing Unifund. The due date to file my answer (where I am claiming the sol is expired) was stated April 28th. Well, I went to the court house today (April 22nd) to file my answer early because I was going to be out of town on the 28th. To my surprise, the clerk told me that TODAY was the my due date to answer. The summons on file with the court had a due date of April 22nd! Apparently, the lawyer filed the summons and then changed the date on my copy so that I would miss the deadline.
