Why can't you contact the original lender of your private student loan when it goes into default? I am having major problems with the CA involved and I would like to contact the lender to let them know what is going on. I want to get this debt under control, but the CA is making it just about impossible...don't you think the lender would like to get it resolved, or am I just looking through rose colored glasses?

My husband and I r looking to purchase a house this year and he has some depts that need to get taken care of, I'm not sure if it is to complicated for me to do myself. Is it better to just have someone do it for me?

I have about 25K in debt that I would like to pay off. Most of it is in the form of collection accounts, and there are a few judgments as well. I also have a defaulted student loan which will be offset in my tax refund, so that should be gone in the next month. I want to know where to start...whether I should clear out the newer collection items, or whether I should get rid of some of the judgments first. I'm trying to keep the costs down, and want to do as much of this myself as possible.

Hi, I have just received a call from Protocol collection services advising me that a charge card that i had opened 4 yrs ago has been referred to them. They could only provide me with the amount owed and how mucg i could settle for. I have tried contacting HSBC but i get no help from them either. HSBC does see where i called to cancel my account but obviously they had not( Kicker: After the call i made to them in Jan '06 i never recieved an invoice or collection notice to date) So in turn i beleived it was cancelled and taken care of. What should i do from here?

Ok I will post this update for my LVNV thread but I have a big question about it. Went to court today, a default hearing. The judge apparently didn't know the finance code and I just happened to have a copy of some of it (only brought for my own notes- didn't think I would need to show the judge). Anyhow he said we technically win by default, but he wanted to take it under advisement and look up the code himself and make sure we could bring civil suit for this.

How long will they continue to harass me? I am working on paying them off, are they going to call everyday...It's so embarrassing...

Unifund has apparently purchased my debt from Citi Bank? In this summons it states that Citi Bank had charged off the remaining balance, so I assume this means Unifund now owns it? Ummmm, I don't know, but a summons of complaint- to go to court was received yesterday, it states that if I fail to appear and defend, a default judgment will be awarded to the plaintiff. I have 28 days to respond from the day of service. The Attorney representing Unifund is, Susan D Appel from Cincinnati, OH.
