Recently spoke to a care one rep and after giving all of my financial information, was instructed to seek an attorney to see about filing bankruptcy. After speaking to an attorney, he instructed me to hold off until after I receive my tax return. I recently received letters that stated some of my accounts had been turned over to collection agencies. Can someone please explain to me what these collection letters actually mean? There is no mention in them about being sued, just that I have 30 days to respond.

My daughter and her husband are being pressured by other family members to file bankruptcy. They owe less then 50k and make more then enough to pay their bills but they are ignorant when it comes to money and refuse to work up a budget. Can you file bankruptcy if you make enough money to pay your bills? Plus they will get a tax return of several thousand. Thanks!

Bank of America called me today, offered me 35% settlement, which I accepted...he told me that the payments had to be within 90 days, is this true? How do I ask for more time, thus making my payments affordable? I'm doing this on my own by the way, went through Superior and realized that I couldn't accept the terms.

Got a letter from them, are they a real law firm or just a junk debt buyer pretending to be a lawfirm? Any good/bad experiences with them? Doing a search didn't help

I'm being sued by LVNV for my charged off Providian credit card account that they purchased. I had the card 10 years ago and I'm sure that the date of last activity on it was much longer ago than the statute of limitations, also that the account was charged off within that time (providian couldn't tell me when the sold the account. However, there is no record of Providian or LVNV on any of my 3 credit reports so I have no way of proving that the statute has expired.

I am not sure if I am posting this in the right forum if not my apologizes (sp?). I had a credit card through Merrick Bank from 2003 that I defaulted on. I received an offer for a settltment of 50% of the balance they say I owe which is $1,156.60 and the original balance was $700.00 now they say they will settle for $578.30. According to my sol it is 4 years I am thinking that it is close to being over the sol. I am on disability and therefore my income is exempt and I don't own any property and my bank is not even in the same state...what should I do?

Hello, I am new to this forum, and in desperate need of some advice. Currently, my husband and I have over $50,000 in unsecured debt. Much of this is our own doing from when we were first married, and enjoying two incomes. Fast forward to two children and less income and thus, the landslide started. We do not make excuses for handling our finances wrong. (How we wish we could go back and do it the right way.) However, while were working to pay off things, a burden was added when my husband lost his job, and went from a six-figure income to $40,000/year.

I have several pay day loans and I have contacted them to make payment arrangements but they say they have to have payment in full so now they just keep calling me and they actually called one of my references and told them everything about my account, I didn't think they were allowed to do that. I need to figure out a way to get them to agree to payments and stop calling me 6 times a day. Any suggestions
