A civil judgment was filed in 2002 by a collection agency on behalf of a bank. The amount of the judgment was originally for $2800. It currently is being reported to the credit bureaus at $3400. There has been no contact by the collection agency for over two years. Can a settlement of a judgment by negotiated down like other collection items? That is can I expect to get this settled with a lump sum pay off of >50 on the dollar?

I was just contacted by Allied today at work and was asked to give them the last four of my social security number. Stupidly I gave it to them. They then said that I was not the person that they were looking for. We had the same last names but different first names. They then asked for my cell number so they can have it in their database to never call me again, and again I gave it to them. I was wondering if I should be worried about a possible case of identity theft.

My husband and I owe apprx $40,000 in debt between credit cards, student loans (already deffered), Suppliers, medical bills, and misc. Most of this debt was amassed for our business we closed but we personally garunteed them. Because of lack of income we were unable to pay on them for the last 6-8 months. We also had a bankruptcy on 2004 and are not eligable to do it again. We do own a house (which we have never been late on) but because of our bad credit we aren't eligable to refinance at decent rates less than 10% and noone is willing to sit second on the mortgage.
