Hello I'm new to this board but would like some advice. Currently my husband and I are about 60K in debt on 4 different credit cards. We are current on all of them, but it's a struggle, I have researched the debt settlement companies but in the fee's you have pay them first I could possibly save up and settle the accounts myself. My questions : If I stop paying on my credit cards and just put the money away and send them a letter saying I am doing this so I can settle the account, will they accept that?

I had a call today at work from a man from United Cash. He called from a 941 area code, but the number he gave me to call back was a 908 area code. He was horrible and insulting. He had a very heavy accent and when I asked him to repeat something, he said I was stupid and didn't understand English. When I told him I couldn;t hear what he said, he said I must have bad ears then and that wasn't his problem. He said that by 2 pm they were sending 2 teams of investigators to my home and my place of business to arrest me.

When I looked at a copy of a recent credit report I noticed that they had reported my debt that they purchased from a credit card company, while that same credit card debt is also still on my report, thus showing up 2 times. It looks like I have more debt than I do and this is unfair. I was wondering if this is legal and or what I can do about it. This company chewed me a new one after I asked if I could reduce my payments or request a temperary freeze during a hard time. They told me the only option was to close the account and they hung up on me.

On the April 28, 2007 I settled my case with e trade/sst by paying $ 5000 in cash. They prommised me to that they will wipe my case and they will fax me a cleaance letter that I will be free from any obligation. But I did not receive any response from them.
