This one *should* be a no-brainer, but one of my customers fell for it and came into my office literally crying that she lost over $4500: She got a $4500 check in the mail from some foreign outfit (didn't tell me who). And a letter that tells her she has won over $200K; all she needs to do is cash the check, wait for the bank to clear the funds, and then Western Union the funds back to them. When they get the funds back, they will send her "prize." She deposited the check. Waited 5 days, and the bank showed those funds as "available".

I started to make payments to this CA couple months now. One weird thing is that whenever I asked for confirmation when making payment over the phone, they all said "all set, no need to" Depends on who I talked to, sometimes, I got confirmation letter but everything went smoothly so I trusted them until last month, I talked to this guy and he must forget to post my payment that I received a warning letter today in mail. I got so mad! :x Another thing is they don't have the option to accept payment online.

A couple of weeks ago I found a letter on this board to foward to the collector asking them to validate the debt. I received in the mail from them a letter "requesting my assistance so that we may reach a quick resolution to your dispute." It sounds to me they can not validate, so they are trying to turn the tables on me and make me do their work for them. They want me to "mail or fax cancelled checks, paid letters, police reports, or any other documentation I may have to support my claim".
