I currently have over $10000.00 in debt just in credit cards. The high interest rates are killing me. I need some advise as to how I can get all these charges in one location with possibly a lower interest rate and make only one payment a month instead of 3 or 4.

i was wondering if i sent a collection agency have to accept payment only if i can afford 5.00 to 10.00 a mounth?

Today, after a tip from my daughter, I finally took the time to go on the website for the MN Dept of Commerce. Because Prudential and MetLife demutualized, there is a lot of unclaimed money out there. If you ever had life insurance through those companies, even if it was years ago, be sure to check with your state's unclaimed money website. Every state appears to be different. Don't use one of the websites that you have to pay them to search. Your state should have a listing somewhere. I just found out I have $395 to claim from Prudential.

My main reason for staying away from the credit counseling services has been distrust. I've heard horror stories of people paying a credit counselor to take care of their debts, only to have the credit counselor ignore the debts, pocket the money, then run when the questions started. It seems like there are tons of crooks out there that are just looking for uninformed, desperate people to take advantage of. What is the easiest way to determine who is trustworthy in this line of business? H&J

I was trying to figure out who's been calling me every hour or so (it was HSBC, by the way), and stumbled here. Wow! I look forward to learning from all of you, and hopefully getting out of the debt hell that I'm in. My wife and I both have decent jobs, but we still live paycheck to paycheck, with all of our credit cards maxed and no apparent way out.
