So I had an American Express Blue card from 5 years ago that I let go delinquent in 2003 ... they charged it off in 2004 and really did not put any collection into it ... I didn't get collection letters or calls, and they didn't sell it. When I got myself back on track this year, I figured since they were patient enough not to hound me for it that I would pay them off first, before I tackled my other credit cards. I called them in October and said I wanted to take care of my balance.

Hello, I am taking up the fight with collectors. I have several collections due to unemployment a few years ago. I was activated after Sept. 11 and when I returned 2 years later, my company laid me off. (that's another battle). Anyway, I was unemployed for a year and shy of creditors, mostly didn't have the $$$ to pay all the bills except food house and cars, (go figure). Well I send the collection agencies letters asking for debt validation. If the debt is valid I send them a payment plan offer with a partial payment in good faith. if they accept, no problem. What do I do if they don't?

I live in Washington State. I have defaulted on a internet PDL & Ted from payment services stated that they were going to garnish my wages if I didn't pay off the loan by the 1st. The problem is that my rent is due on the 1st. H e said that he would contact my supervisor & the Human Resources department. Do I have any options?

Sorry this is long..I had a car repo'd in early 1991. The only time I had heard from the bank was about 2 months after they repo'd when they sent a letter stating I could pay x amount to get it before it went to auction. I couldn't afford that so I didn't. I never heard from them but did notice that it did go on my credit report. (after 7 years it was off) I went on with my life. I married in 1992. After the 7 years was up and my credit report was cleared I got a couple of credit cards in my name. I bought a car in 2001.

We all know or are learning that some collection agencies use underhanded or illegal tactics. Lets say I owe a debt that I did not pay and the Statute of Limitations ran out for legal action. Lets then say an aged debt collection agency using aforementioned tactics does not call me but gets a hold of another "Jimbeem" and the imposter does not know any better and is scared or intimidated into making a payment or two thus resetting the Statute of Limitations. What prevents this from happening? How do I prove I did not make a payment? I think my own personal picture is becoming very clear.
