student loan collections

19 years 1 month ago
my student loan has enterred collecyions. The collection agency is telling me that they will garnish my wages for 25% (before taxes). I have read on the Department Of Education Resources that they can only garnish for 15% of disposable income. Are they allowed to garnish 25% if it has been turned over to a collection agency?

Another Mortgage Problem

19 years 1 month ago
You guys might remember me writing back in April that our mortgage was going into foreclosure. Well, we received the summons from the courts via certified mail. Hubby picked them up from the post office and everything. Well, we came to payment arrangments with the mortgage company that would get us caught up by the end of the year. Officially, in December will will be out of the total foreclosure process. We sent this information to the courts and hubby talked to their attorney. I don't think we ever officially mailed him anything and that might have come back to bite us in the butt.

Debt Consolidation or Bankruptcy?

19 years 1 month ago
Right now, i'm doing all I can to remove as many of my debts as I possibly can, either through disputes (I really have no idea what half the stuff on my report is from) or through paying off the balances (in the cases where I do know I owe the money). Certain debts I didn't feel the need to request validation for, because I knew I owed the money, but then I did also contact the actual companies I owed the money to, not the CA, and paid them off. But when talking my financial situation over with a nonprofit debt counselling agency, they suggested i file for bankruptcy.

The Gods' Sadistic Joke (hey. It's eye catching, no?)

19 years 1 month ago
Hey. You guys wanted the story, yes? Be careful what you ask for. So. I never really learned anything about money growing up. my mother was always broke, my Dad was nonexistant. But when I turned 18, I got harassed immediately by a particular credit card company. Back int he days before 800 numbers to activate your card, they just sent it to you in the mail without you applying first or anything. The card was ready to go. Wouldn't have mattered, anyway. In this situation, the one using the card was my mother, who had my SSN number and such anyway.

Anyone dealt with Forgetadebt.com?

19 years 1 month ago
I was wondering if anyone has dealt with or is currently using Forgetadebt.com? They are only charging $500 for debt settlement compared to $1200, $1500, or even $2000 as other companies and law firms are charging. I am wondering if this is too good to be true. I would appreciate any feedback. Mike
