I guess I haven't thought of this, but does a collection agency hire another collection agency to collect its money? My husband has an account with Fingerhut which I am currently paying on through Phillips & Cohen. Fingerhut is showing bad debt---write off. Phillips & cohen are not on credit report. but Fingerhut has a second entry on credit report under midland credit management. They are also showing 'collection Account--making payments'.

Is there any way I can recieve counseling via email because I am overseas?

Hi! Got a letter today from: Law offices of Mitchell N. KAY P.C. new york, NY they're trying to collect from a FIGI's INC. for 102.86. Never heard of FIGI's. anyone know who they are? This just pops up today---never heard from OC or CA before, just this today from ??lawyer??. I just got done writing validation request and its going out in tomorrows mail, certified-return request. thanks, shirley

I have about $25,000 total in credit debt, and my current minumum payments total about $700/month, and I from what i understand, beginning January 2006, minimum payment on credit card bills will DOUBLE...I am looking to combine all my bills into 1 low payment that I can pay each month...My credit is not so bad, when I purchased my car this past July, my score was a 672 on Trans-Union...what are the drawbacks of doing credit card "settlement" vs "consolidation", and how will it affect my credit after I've paid off everything?

Okay. So today I stumbled across your very helpful website, and find some VERY valuable information regarding 'wage assignments'. I am desperate. I have an attorney who is representing me, but I cannot seem to get in touch with, and yet a 'wage assignment' has been received by my payroll department. I have never in my life dealt with such a document, and this is all very new to me. You had once responded to a forum about receiving notification 20 days before-hand, I received none.

Anytime there is an unknown on the caller id, or a number I don't recognize I let the machine pick it up. Lately, we have been getting messages that are cryptic, stating it is an important business matter, but not stating who is calling and we need to reply. If we respond, could this possibly be a trap? Also, after you pay a collection agency, isn't it customary to receive some sort of receipt showing that your debt is paid? If not what should you do to ensure you are not harassed for that same debt in the future?
