I just received a letter from an attorney's office attempting to collect a medical debt from 9/8/98. I live in the state of Florida and that is where the debt occurred (hospital). Can this attorney legally collect this debt? Thanks for any help.

Hi, I am really new here. I have just spent hours reading these messages. For the first time in a long long time, I do not feel alone in my mistakes. I was wondering, I filled out the request for a consultation, and they gave me a name of a company. Now what? Do I talk to that company? I am terrified of never digging out of this pit of debt. How do I know the company reccomended to me is legit? I feel like this cycle of late payments, wondering about living paycheck to paycheck, worrying about feeding my children, not sleeping due to this worry, is it ever going to end?

Go to school here go to school there, rack up 11,000 in school loans. With nothing to show for it, really. Odd jobs here and there, rack up more in credit card debt. Now have a secure job making enough to pay minimum on everything, revolving overlimit fees. I'M DROWNING, WHAT DO I DO!

there's this website that promises to get at least one lender for a person with bad credit. i have bad credit and a big balance with legal consel at the university. i desperately need to enroll come January and i dont see it possible with this kind of balance. should i pay a small fee to www.badcreditlender.com? has anybody used this website? please help.

:shock: I had a Citibank credit card account over 16 years ago. It was charged off, and I haven't paid it in over 10 years. It's not on my credit reports, and has been there in a while. I don't have any negative items on my reports. (I checked my FICO scores yesterday.) I opened a J. Jill credit card, which was through Citibank about two months ago. Yesterday, I received a letter from some one saying they represent a collection agency saying they purchased this debt. Also, if I didn't contact them to make an arrangement, they would came after me legally.

Hi. My name is Ralph and I've recently come on some hard times with money. I'm probably somewhere in the neighborhood of 10k in credit card debt and I'm late on the various cards about 2 months. I've submitted for assistance with your fee counseling. My question is how far can a collection agency go to retrieve the money? Do I have to worry about people coming to my house? Do they just incessantly call? I'm very new to all this and I understand that my credit is taking a hit. Is that the only downfall? Thanks

Well I called My Cash Niw to setup payment arrangments other than the original contract and they stated that they only setup payment arrangments with debt consolidation companies? Has anyone heard of this? I would like to setup my own payment arrangements with them, but they won't?

Hello All, I have a zero balance credit card on my credit report from a credit card that I cancelled about two years ago. I mean obviously it isn't a bad thing to owe someone zero dollars, but I was just wondering why it shows up. Not exactly sure how the whole credit report thing works, but it is under "good credit" and I just was wondering if they didn't close my account completely even though I closed it TWICE.
