REMINDER about "Topic of the Week" (how it works)

20 years 3 months ago
ALL: This is just a reminder (that I will keep up for at least a week or so)... There is a function of the Pub called "Topic of the Week". Once a week (usually on Mondays/Tuesdays), the topic will be updated to a new topic. All posts in the thread related to the old topic will be stripped from the existing thread and reformed into a new thread entitled "TOTW Archive: ". The thread will be left open for future discussion. ==IMPORTANT== In order to keep this feature alive, we need a constant flow of ideas (topic proposals).

Twighlight Zone

My story begins some 20 years ago. My husband and I married in 1986. He had a good paying job with Dupont and I was jusy about to finish nursing school. Our first baby was on the way. Little by little our financial status improved, we bought a house...we were the perfect young couple building our dream. Then in 1993 (we now had 2 sons) Dupont began to lay off workers. My husband had no formal training in any other job, so job loss would mean working at Sears or some other low paying job. Dupont offered a voluntary seperation package...we took it and ran! My husband went back to school.

Charges against me from A.S. and Associates

I was recently contacted by a Michelle Smith from A.S. and Assoc. in regard to my defaulted account with Direct cash Express. She told me that a complaint had been filed against me over this debt. What exactly does this mean and does it sound legitimate? :?

Catch-22 with my credit score

20 years 3 months ago
Ever since my last car was basically repossessed (I gave it back to the bank), I've needed a new car. I figured with my recent salary increase, that I could afford the payments on a used vehicle, if I financed with the dealer. Because of my terrible credit, I knew that acquiring a loan with a bank was out of the question. I found a great car online that was cheap, and in good condition. I went to the dealer, who seemed promising. I test drove the car, fell in love with it...then sat down for the financial part of it all.

USERRA and collection

20 years 3 months ago
I was deployed to Iraq for a year, and the individual that I left as my attorney-in-fact elected to spend all my money and not pay a single one of my bills. I had about $10,000 in collections, and have whittled it down to about $4500, but new collections keep popping up. I feel like I'll never be able to catch up. Also, I am paying collection fees and interest that accrued during a time which I was serving in a combat zone. What options are available to me? Is it easier to have a debt consolidation service take over? Should I file bankruptcy?

Collection agency hiding its identity

For the past few months I have been behind in my credit card bills. My boyfriend was out of work and its just hard to get back on track. Last week we signed up for a dmp program and wwe were so excited to start paying our debt back. The next I got a call from a guy stating that he was an attorney and my Best Buy card had to be paid in full or else I was going to get sued. Obviously I was scared and don't want to get sued so I set out to do some research on practices on collecting debts.
