Worried

We are about six months into the settlement process and I continue to question whether or not we have made the right choice. We signed on with a settlement company paid fees up front and are now in the savings process. Initially phone calls were always returned, emails answered promptly and now - not the case.
When the collection letters started coming in our account was turned over to an assigned negotiator. When I call this guy for updates he sounds like an absolute bafoon. Half the time I don't think he even knows who we are or what we need. I am feeling more and more that we have made a huge mistake and are about to be out of thousands of dollars. Its bad enough to have to enter into this process because of the uncertainty but now I'm feeling duped and even more concerned.
I just don't know what to do. It would be helpful to get some real testimonials from folks that have used and gained results from a settlement company.
HELP!!!!!!!!
