I wouldn't admit or deny to owing that debt, also, you do have the right to know HOW they computed the amount they say you owe, and if they have the legal right to collect on that debt. It's up to them to prove all the above. They also need to send you a dunning letter (letter of collection) per federal law. In that letter is should state that you have 30 days from receipt of that letter to dispute the validity of that debt. You should definitely dispute it and request validation within the 30 day window, that will buy you some time, it will also place the burden of proof upon the collection agency to provide the necessary documents proving they have a legal right to collect the debt and the above items I mentioned. This collection agency has 5 days after their first initial contact with you to send you a dunning letter via the mail. If you haven't moved since acquiring that debt then you're right, they SHOULD have your address.

Thanks for the reply shazzers, no I haven't moved I've been at the same address for 20 years now. I just freak out when a new CA comes in the picture, I don't know why, but I do. I've been dealing with this for over a year, so I should be use to in by now. Back to addresses, I keep a close eye on my credit report, do you know several months ago, I got to looking at one of mine and some how my old address from over 20 years ago, got listed as my current address. I really think one of the CA that I have been dealing with did that, I disputed it and it was removed. The reason why I think they did it, is because it is in a different county than where I am now, and they could easily go behind my back and get a default judgement against me and I would never know. But I keep a check on the court record in that county.
