Student Loan settlement?

I have some private loans that have become too much to handle. I need some advice on whether or not I can negotiate a debt settlement. My main concern is leverage and if I have any. What can I say to my creditor that gives them any incentive to help me?
How much do you owe? Who is your lender? Are you in default?

You can negotiate a settlement but not a debt settlement program.
You do not have much leverage but settlements are possible. Need more info.
