West assest just tried to contact a friend of mine, about a student loan. I just moved back to Wichita, Kansas. after being in Louisiana taking care of my mother. I just found a job, and have not even received a paycheck, and have other bills that are more important to get to. These people are saying I owe like 7000. when in reality I only owe about 2500. and do not want to pay anymore than that...So do I have to pay the 7000. or can I get it down to the principle. Also how do I get a hold of the DOE.

In reality, you owe $7000. Your interest accrues daily and capitalizes plus you owe collection fees of up to 24% for defaulting....you agreed to all these terms.

You can call the DOE but you will immediately be sent to west asset. You need to make this a priority or they will make it one for you...they can garnish your wages 15% without a court order.

The only way to get your balance reduced is to offer them a lump sum...they will waive some or all of the collection fees...but your balance will never go back down to $2500.
