I need help in Maryland
Date: Wed, 09/23/2009 - 10:05
Here is my problem. I took out a payday loan with Mycashnow.com in July for $640.00.
Since then I have paid them $930 with $320 remaining on the loan.
After visiting this site, I talked with the Maryland Commission that you guys recommended.
She was very kind and told me that I should not pay them another dime since they are illegal in the state of Maryland. In reading some of these threads, if I close my bank account, how much harassement am I going to be getting from these folks? I cant afford to have them calling me at work as it could cause me big trouble. I also dont need them to be calling my relatives because that would cause me more sleepless nights.
What steps can I take to get out of this? I cannot afford to pay them anymore.
Any input from those of you with experience would be greatly appreciated.

CLICK HERE to find out how to deal with illegal lenders, the steps are outlined there. As far as harassment, well, there really isn't a lot you can do about it besides changing your phone number, and not speaking to them when they call. Just hang up immediately, don't even give them the time of day, they will tire sooner talking to thin air rather then someone to argue with. Tell your references the same, hang up immediately.

Closing your account is really the only way to stop them from taking your money. Read the "sticky" on this site about closing your account and do NOT tell the PDL beforehand that you're going to do that, or they'll try to get as much money as they can. I agree with Shazzers, tell your references and others who might answer your phone to hang up if they receive any calls. You might also want to keep some sort of "log" of any e-mails, etc., you receive from MyCashNow; ask your contact at the MD Commission if she wants you to send them to her or not. But I'd keep a record just for my own information. Going back over my own log; I DID receive threatening e-mails from MyCashnow, they were going to send me to collections, etc. I emailed them back each time stating that they were illegal and gave them the phone # and address of the MD Commission for Financial Regulation. And I did receive a call from National Credit Adjusters who were collecting on behalf of MyCashnow. I told them that MyCashNow was illegal in Maryland and I was working with the State of Maryland and gave THEM the number and address of the MD Commission. It takes time but I live in Maryland and between the MD Commission and this great site, I want to tell you there IS hope, just hang in there.
