My husband and I are retired and live on pensions and social security. We bought into the debt settlement program of Consumer Law Associates two years ago. We have paid them over $6,000 for their services. They have settled one account. We have two more, but listening to Nancy Grace on tv one night we decided to stop with them. We have asked for our funds back that we have in a savings type account. They have said we probably won't get any funds for their services back.

My family received $30K @ zero interest for 30 years from our city government for down payment on our first home. It has only been two years since we owned the house. We are planning to file for chapter 7, I wonder if we will be relief from this debt? Please advise. Thanks.

Hi again everyone, please bear with me, this post is going to be long. I feel like I'm backed into a corner, and I don't know what else to do. I opened a new bank account, and have tried to work out things with different payday loan companies. I don't know why I don't have a lot of luck with illegal lenders when it comes to settling my debt, but a lot of companies won't settle for just the principle amount. I've already been told by some that my accounts are in collections and are about to be sent to a law office for further collections. I'm trying my hardest to pay these off...

Hello All: Wondering if anyone can provide advice on this situation. I received a phone call about a month ago from Portfolio Recovery Associates - they were telling me that I had a balance of $$$$$ and wanted to collect on said balance. I had already requested DV from another CA on this account and they apparently then sold it to PRA. This was the first communication of any kind I had with PRA. I told the gal from PRA that I am disputing this debt and she asks me why. Because it is my right - BUT WHY? I said I can just give you my new contact information so you can send me a letter.

I have recently had to get a loan and, then another. I have never been in this position before and I have been paying my payday loans back for several months. But know I am facing not being able to pay them back at all. I have to move because of no money and facing this with fear. I have 4 loans from 4 different places. This was never intended and I feel awful. I need help to know what I should do in this hard time. The loans equal out to around 1,600. I am in Ohio. I also have a bank account and have given them personal checks.

I need help.... my income that I secured my home loan and equityline of credit with is gone. I have been using my lifesavings from his death to pay my mortgages and bills with. If I keep paying for my house which needs about 25K worth of work before I can put it on the market and the bills will eventually eat up all my money.

I was a co-signor on my son's auto loan. He lost his job, and ended up relinquishing the vehicle. The finance company sold the vehicle, telling him/us we still owed about $6000. Subsequently my husband and I filed a Chapter 13, and had to include this account. We have been paying on it for 2 years. My son just received a letter from Asset Acceptance offering a 50% discount if he settled and paid this bill. Can they do this? Does he/we have to pay this?

Similar to other posts I have read here (wonderful information by the way), my sister and I have both gotten ourselves in a mess with online payday lenders to help with an extreme family emergency. We tried all other avenues to secure funds but had to resort to the payday lenders. We live in Indiana and cannot find any online PDLs that have the required license in our state, only storefront lenders. We have both already taken the steps to close our bank accounts yesterday. What I am worried about is if any of these lenders are CSOs.

I started trying to get out of the payday loan mess back in November. I soon realized that I had to get my finances in order so I could keep my house, electricity on, etc. and sent letters to both CashNetUSA and Checkngo stating that I could not pay what I owed them at this time and was revoking their ACH authorizations. I sent these letters by certified mail. They contacted me to set up payment arrangements which I tried to stick to, but it was still too much for me to handle. They wanted hundreds of dollars twice a month, and I could not manage that.

I received a vm at 9:16 AM this morning from a man named Brian Lockwood stating that he is a independent process server and he received a fax in his office for a summons or actually a re-issuance of a summons for my husband...says its a code 40-hot check issuance...my husband NEVER writes checks nor do I...he gave my husband's dob and states he was hoping to speak with him directly so they could meet so he could serve him the documents...he also says he will be out in the field trying to serve the documents to him at his place of employment...he states my husbands former employer but not the
