A copy of my email conversation with Amanda at DJR aka River Elk: Amanda, I am in receipt of your email with attachment. I am aware of the laws, rules and regulations and ALL companies must be licensed, including internet companies. Your company provided a service to me knowing full well that is illegal to do so. Therefore, I am seeking a refund of the money I grossly overpaid you and will be re-filing my complaint with my attorney general's office. The loan amount was $390, you took $1,075 out of my account since April, which means you owe me a refund of $685.00.

Private Student Loan Cosigner Relief

14 years 4 months ago
I'm trying to help a retired widow who cosigned for her grandson's student loans. The reason she signed (and not the parents) is because the parents were unfit drug addicts and the grandmother was trying to help the grandson to get on the path of a better life. The grandson graduated from college with a degree in business yet suffers from alcoholism (a remnant of his upbringing from unfit parents). The graduate racked up over $90,000 in private student loans yet is unable to pay since he lives in a halfway house and has no job.

$4000 in interest in 9 months, is that legal?

14 years 4 months ago
On original debt of 12,000. Then it went into collection, to Asset Acceptance, LLC. I got a letter from them on December 1st 2010. I called them today on September 19th 2011. The balance then showed on the letter, 13,500. I think they bought this debt from another CA. So I called them today looking for a settlement. To my suprise it's now 17,600. How can they charge this kinda interest in 9 months? Is this normal?

collection agencies are starting to call

14 years 4 months ago
Hi I have spent hours reading this forum over the past several weeks. I have closed my checking account, sent out letters to illegal lenders, received 2 rebuttals from them via email and replied with the same letter, (one owes me $400 and the other $225-3rd agreed to let me mail a money order for $22) and now I am getting calls from collection agencies. They do not leave messages but I looked up their numbers and its Enhanced Recovery Corp and NCA. I'm getting nervous about them- should I go ahead and send letters requesting debt validation before talking to them?

Don't know how I got here...

14 years 4 months ago
I'm brand new to this site...and I've been reading through some of the posts...but can't locate anything on where to begin. I have $30K in CC debt in my name alone...another $10K jointly or held by my husband. The problem I'm having is that he doesn't know about the $30K. He believes I owe around $15K. We make good money...I don't even know how I wracked up all this debt. We're current on all our cc bills...but there is nothing left afterwards. We don't go out anymore...and I can't cut cable/internet because I work from home. I have a 2 year old and I'm scared for her.

Paid bill to original creditor, what letter to use for CC

14 years 4 months ago
I paid a bill to the hospital, after receiving a letter from the CC. The letter is dated within the last 30 days. This is a "unless you dispute, we will assume this is a valid debt" kind of letter. I didn't pay the CC, but opted to pay the original creditor, to avoid this going to my credit report. (I don't know for sure if this has been reported to the CB yet, I don't believe so). My question is, should I send a copy of the receipt to the CC along with a dispute letter.

Hi all... well I ended up having to fax them my letter and received a response today from ASanchez@riverelk.com. Basically, they said while the info i have collected may apply to companies that have physical locations in my state, it is our "opinion" that it does not apply to our internet business model. Ultimately, they marked my account paid in full and stated that there would be no refund of the money I paid to date. Im contemplating going after them for a refund, but at the same time I should just cut my losses and chalk it up as a lesson learned.

They are stalking me!

14 years 4 months ago
Apparently, they know that I posted help on this forum and have been stalking my posts. Can you believe these people? They keep saying that they are turning me into an attorney. Wow. I overpaid these people by $596. My original loan was only $550 and I paid that plus an additional $596 and they still want more and are going to sue me. I'm sure they are reading this too, so "hi Mario". Here's the email he sent me: "remember that your account is now past due ($454 total). We noticed your comments on "Debt Help Archive" but remember Ms.
