We are low-income pt parents in 70's and have a fine daughter who owes a HUGE chunk on her student loan account. (a private university) Any way she can get the interest lowered or get part of balance reduced? She's stuck in a small community with a part-time job and can't save enough to go for a bigger community where jobs are scarce too. I have had a divorce. & was tricked very badly. after signing my divorce papers & not getting a copy (because we were trying to do it ourselves to save money.) My now ex-wife added things into the papers before final filing. so now I am responsible for some things That I should not be. Like a motorcycle that disappeared a few days after the filing was done. & I owe her a small amount of money. I want to know if I can claim any of this on a bankruptcy?The money I owe her & her attorney? can I claim that ? everything else I'm fairly clear on.

Now this has been going on for about a year now. I have never committed fraud and I wish this people would stop yelling and screaming through my phone. When I ask them what this is about, they stutter and put me on hold. You should have your business together when calling me. Why do they harrass good hard working people? What is their aim? What really makes it bad is that they are not the only companty like this. I had another one last week that called my phone over 5 times within 2 and a half minutes. The guy was a foreign and just screaming through the phone "liar liar" .

I have been trying to deal with some third party collection companies for awhile now. so far I have sent DV letters certified mail and received most of them back. Now I am sending out letters out trying to work out settlements and payment plans. My question is this,, is it better to do this in writing so as to have a paper trail or should I be contacting them by phone? What are the chances of them sending a reply by mail?

Will credit unions settle on lines of credit?

I have 2 cards that I want to stop using completely...they are maxed out, and I am tired of the interest accruing on them. I can't keep up (see other post). Can I call and ask for a settlement of some sort? Or do I need to write some fancy letter?? If so, anyone have a sample? Can anyone lead me in right direction to debt freedom? Credit is already shot, and not going to get better if I don't get a handle on this. :(

First of all I don't have any credit cards, but I do have several loans at finance companies. I have almost 7000 to pay some of the debt off. I just need to know what to pay first. Can someone please help? We would like to increase our chances of purchasing a new home this year and I just need to know what would benefit us the most and raise our credit scores the quickest.
